Good timing:

Describing the acceleration of the V6S as "brutal" is a.... unqiue? perspective.

"Fairly brutal", probably a kickdown-enhanced feeling.

I was thinking about an XK for a while and test drove one in 2020. I was suprised that it felt so like my XF. Similar Jaguar motif of suspension that just dealt with any road surface underneath it allowing you to make progress in a very meaningful way while simultaneously feeling cosseted (the magic carpet ride they speak of). It lacked taughtness and its size meant you couldn't really chuck it around, although the big V8 was pleasing enough. It was a cruiser and a nice GT car but I wouldn't have said it was a sports car.

I liked the F type I hired a few months ago a lot more. It might not be the quickest or necessarily the most chuckable but it was fun in a way that the XK hadn't been. It made a great noise, it gave you a solid shove in the back and you could shove it round a corner and provoke the tail. It looks great too. The downsides are, as others have said, it's suprisingly massive and yet has bugger all space inside (it was basically full with two adults and luggage for a long weekend).

I have a grand plan to buy one once I can cobble together about £25k and the second hand on supercharged V6s is favourable.

That convertible really does look a bit awkward/unfinished from certain angles compared to the coupe. Or maybe it's very sensitive to the wheel and colour combo.

Nice enough but no desire to own one.

I think that sums it up. I was in that market segment a few years ago and the Jag got a passing consideration but no more than that. I don't feel like I've missed out.

I guess the other thing is, in my case at least, it might be cheaper to buy and maintain, but I reckon if I was in the market I'd probably swallow the extra cost of a Vantage. Way more desirable to me.

There's an end of term review from Dickie Meaden in the ecoty '22 issue. P450 coupe and it sounds lovely tbh. No complaints about noisy exhausts either. I'd love a V8 convertible, it's a classy TVR innit.
