I see the Daily Mail are doing their best to stoke hostility between the two groups and the don't even try to be subtle about it.

The Heil stoking hostility, promoting division and hatred? Never!
If you get all wobbly-lipped about the opinion of Internet strangers, maybe it's time to take a bath with the toaster as you'll never amount to sh1t anyway.

Actual real life situation was following a middle of the road hogger on friday (before new rules). Gave him a little honk as he was bang in the centre of the lane and I had waited ages to get by - well he went MENTAL !!!!

Turning round gesticulating. kicking off, big time. A simple solution would have been to accept a car was trying to get by and move over.

The problem is going to get worse. Also, has noone thought about the slowing down of the whole country? Its absolutely BONKERS.

They are cunts of the highest order in my town. We used to have a very popular cycle shop here and Sundays and Saturdays would see large groups, either meeting by the bridge and being half in the road or meeting by a large bend in the road and again just dawdling.

As they wanted to stay together to huddle for warmth, companionship, hide their erections over their Froome ensembles they generally had a leader who would ride in the middle of the road till they had all got up to speed and then darted about aimlessly while they slipstreamed to another cake shop.

When it was groups or 4 or 5 they generally acted absolutely fine and there were no issues.

The bike shop has moved now and you just get cyclists passing through and riding really well. I enjoy cycling so when others act like twats it’s even more annoying. The new rules just give the stupid ones a superiority complex and more stuff to feel superior about.

It feels like it's got a few people cycling who haven't been on a bike in decades - perhaps they perceive the roads to suddenly be much safer. Was behind some middle aged women who were wobbling all over the road. I followed them for a few minutes at which point they abruptly turned across the road, causing a van to brake to avoid them. It was pretty close.
I mean the highway code does pretty much read "you can do whatever the fuck you want if you're a cyclist" so I guess you can't even get mad at them...
How about not having a sig at all?

I know this is done in the name of safety, but I see more tangles between cars and cyclists if people are cycling in the middle of the road. Motorists will just get fed up and try some sort of hair brained overtake that they wouldn't have needed to try if the cyclist had just tucked in a bit.

Why didn't you just overtake him safely?

On the narrow road we were on he cut two corners, being in the middle of the road, making his erratic riding unpredictable. A quick honk to be polite was all that was required for him to shift left.

He was a total wazzok.

Why would you overtake him on a corner? He has no obligation to pull over for you if you can't overtake safely. That wasn't the case in the old Highway Code and isn't the case in the new one.

This. All the frothing over the new HC and nothing has materially changed!

A cyclist has every right to position themselves in the middle of the lane - it's their roadspace just as much as it is yours. In an ideal world they'd wave you past when they're comfortable for you to do so, and may even give you more space to as well. But they might not, and that's just tough titties. It would be no different to following a learner driver that might be going really slowly. Be patient and don't be a cunt.

Shirley there should be a greater effort from “the man” to ensure public awareness of these changes? :? I have sent info to my mum, but have no idea how she would have known otherwise?

One of the biggest issues for me is that John Q Citizen (in addition to my mum) thinks you aren’t allowed to straddle solid white lines, so will sit behind cyclists for feckin miles on twisty roads. And even though you know they can overtake cyclists (n horses n shizzle) you aren’t allowed to just overtake them and get on with the job correctly.

And whilst we are educating everyone we should remind them to use all lanes available, and merge in turn at whatever point of restriction occurs up ahead.

And not to indicate left after an overtake.

Maybe they should just outlaw the use of roads for all except geeks. Like us.

Yip, nothing much has changed from the rules as they were. And the golden one of course being "don't be a dick."

Well quite. But we can only manage ourselves. And just becuase everyone else is a cunt doesn't mean oneself should be.
