I'd day about 70% of my Engineering Class in Uni were women - 92 to 96.

Presumably no maths or English skills were required...

:D Was gonna say. If that's a men/women split that's 49/51.

I'm guessing it's probably the years he was there, but it's funnier to read it our way!

Tough crowd...

But yeah - the years of the course. Point (I obviously didn't make) was that 29 years ago, there were a hell of a lot of women studying Engineering and the majority did Civil or Mechanical streams...

A woman I know is an engineer for Network Rail. I assume civil rather than steam train driver.

Wouldn't have worked...

12.21 12.11.21
12.11.21 12.21

Neither are elegant

Calling it at 1:21 would have been better... ;)

Well done!

As someone totally non-academic (I left school at 16) I have nothing but awe for people who can complete a PhD

My wife was writing up hers (genetics) when we first met.

I remember her saying that a PhD was about 30 ability, and 70 sheer bloody mindedness and tenacity.

I does my head in to think of applying myself like that.

So hats off to you!

Haha! So it’s an Oxford PhD which they call a DPhil, just so no one can actually figure out that you have a PhD.

I was interested in the heart’s metabolism… the end goal is finding if you can change the metabolism to improve function as a treatment for a weak heart.

Mrs Newt took me for dinner so I am currently a few wines down…

Dr^2

In Germany (pragmatic as ever) they call someone who is a medical doctor and a PhD “herr Doktor Doktor” unlike over here!

It’s funny - far more so than other courses / degrees I have done, this feels like a personal victory rather than all the tick box exercises I have done.
