Local Shell was taped off, and Morrisons had a queue halfway up the bypass.

In a TVR you only need enough fuel to get you to the next breakdown and the AA take you the rest of the wayV8Granite wrote: Fri Sep 24, 2021 3:41 pmYes but was that enough for you to make it home ?drcarlos wrote: Fri Sep 24, 2021 3:39 pm 200 metre queues in the village today. doesn't help that the Tesco/Esso was ramraided 2 weeks ago and they haven't reopened it yet so the Texaco/Coop is being hammered. At least I put £40 in the TVR last night.
Dave!
Newsnight had Andrew Bridgen on; he reckoned that the Gov was made aware of a shortage of drivers as much as 6 years ago, and that there's more than enough qualified drivers in the UK right now, but not enough was done to retain them and not enough is being done to bring them back to the profession. Also said that businesses should have prepared for Brexit impact and reduced reliance on cheap EU labour. Let's also remember that there's a huge HGV test backlog due to Covid restrictions.V8Granite wrote: Fri Sep 24, 2021 9:27 amAs apposed to a large amount of good drivers leaving as the wages have been pushed so low they earn more money in Sainsbury’s. So that £5 overnight allowance didn’t really cut it.Delphi wrote: Fri Sep 24, 2021 9:15 amNot saying there isn't, but they're not having petrol stations closed through lack of drivers are they? Also a recent survey of people in the industry cited the top 3 reasons for the crisis as Brexit and drivers retiring joint first followed by the recent IR35 rule changes. #FactBroccers wrote: Fri Sep 24, 2021 9:01 am
Of course there is no hgv driver shortage in the eu either. #Fact![]()
Only 1 stayed in working for Shell, 2 other relatives quit about 5 years ago as they were getting paid less than years before after agencies were just too cheap to compete with. I think Tesco’s and M+S we’re well paid as they had their own drivers and trucks but I don’t know if that is nationwide.
I know my Cousin complained a lot as each year he earned less with less benefits.
The haulage industry caused this, not Brexit. It should be a skilled position transporting goods around the country, not cheapest wins at all costs. I’ll ask a friend how he sees it as he has been in since 2018 ish.

There would still have to be queues of stationary cars to achieve this.Simon wrote: Sat Sep 25, 2021 9:36 am What garages should've done, instead of rationing fuel to £30 a customer, was to check fuel gauges of people entering and only allow those with a quarter tank or less to fill up. That way you wouldn't have had those idiots topping up with £10/£20 when they were mostly full anyway. That way you'd probably have had just about normal levels of demand yesterday.
When I am king these are the rules you can expect.
When I am king I’ll just have those topper uppers executed and removed from the gene pool. You just know they’re the same people who stockpiled toilet paper, pasta, rice and bought 2 dogs during lockdown which they’ve already given up to a rehoming centre.Simon wrote: Sat Sep 25, 2021 9:36 am What garages should've done, instead of rationing fuel to £30 a customer, was to check fuel gauges of people entering and only allow those with a quarter tank or less to fill up. Yes but we only needed them to be full for tomorrow with family birthdays, so normally I would've filled up tonight when getting our Saturday takeaway. As it is now all the petrol will be gone now and there's no guarantee of a Saturday tanker delivery.Jobbo wrote: Sat Sep 25, 2021 9:46 amThere would still have to be queues of stationary cars to achieve this.Simon wrote: Sat Sep 25, 2021 9:36 am What garages should've done, instead of rationing fuel to £30 a customer, was to check fuel gauges of people entering and only allow those with a quarter tank or less to fill up. Well done on filling up both your cars though. If you actually needed the fuel, surely they’d have been full already?
I think it was too clever for my sleep deprived brain
