Which will also be converted to heat, none of that 79% is being exported as useful energy. So in total, 90% of the gas going in gets turned into waste heat.

And does that 79% include the heat generated by the huge HVAC system required to prevent the entire mining rig melting ? I assume so.

I am not a fan of this crypto stuff. I've no doubt some people will be getting very rich but it's not going to be the retail investors. It's all a Ponzi scheme.

The KW of gas energy going into the plant will be gone so if 50% goes to electrical that will be 170MW consumed. So if that 50% turned into mining it will essentially all get turned into heat.

The efficiency somewhere like that will be on parasitic load, so for example to run out 5.6MW engine we consume 170kW of power to run radiator fans, cooling fans and pumps etc.

Now if that 85MW of load needs 10MW of cooling (I have no idea on power consumption of electronics, Brant may have an idea) then that will drop the efficiency to a much greater degree as it is not producing anything.

Parasitic load is the big one as that is taken off after the initial thermal efficiency of the generator is already taken into account.

Would be a hilarious waste of money getting that set up if it all became worthless overnight. Here's hoping.

regardless of efficiency/heat/MWs it's simply being produced and wasted purely to say "I've wasted it". In a world where we are all completely aware of the damage caused by wasting resources it's incredible that it can exist.

Honestly, it's shit like this that will cause it be legislated out of useful existence, at which point having a crypto wallet will be probable cause for investigations into the purchase of drugs or child porn, because that's literally all it'll be good for.

And on that day, I will laugh heartily. Because I'm a horrible, horrible cunt.

I’m surprised Elon is involved at all if I’m honest.

I don’t think Elon personally gives nearly as much of a crap about the environment as it’s made out. He’s just collecting vast sums of money to build a civilisation on Mars at this point. The whole backing crypto, razing a forest to build a factory, selling carbon credits to other car manufacturers thereby in effect negating their own zero emission ambitions, asking for new cobalt mines to be opened up...

He got in trouble with the SEC for exactly that.
