How are the Quackers doing?

Have you fed them peas?

Can they play drums?

Much confusion in the coop this morning as something got in last night - presumably to attack them like every other object they see.

Not sure which of the 3 has delivered the mysterious object - they are all a bit freaked this morning :?

Zer is only one, but that’s un eouf.

We’ve had an egg in the coop every day since the above, so it was time to try them. You can look away now @duncs500

Mrs mik chose to fry.

I think I’ve only had a duck egg once (as part of a dish) so was a bit (irrationally) apprehensive....

Still young birds so the first ones aren’t much bigger than normal hen eggs, but as I had read, the ratio of yolk to white is much higher, and the white that is there is firmer - without the really liquid white part in a hens egg. So more nutritious and filling than hens eggs 😎👍 but more fat in them too 😕

So.... bloody delicious! 😎🍴

Once they all start laying we’ll have more than we can eat, so will start giving them away to interested parties.

Getting bigger..... have put chicken wire over existing fences so we can let them free-range a bit more. They still stick together and move around as a wee gang though....

No cats - just two dogs. Who were interested at first but now not bothered - unless the ducks rap on the door as you see....

i believe pancakes and hoisin sauce is the more traditional accompaniment for duck.

Got some more chicken wire up so they were free-ranging round a big section of the garden for about 9hrs yesterday.

First attempt at poaching a duck egg this morning. The absence of the really watery white that you get in a hens egg means they hold together superbly with minimal “stringy bits” that need to be trimmed before serving. And presumably for the same reason - they finish up egg-shaped. 😎

Our cat will kill and eat most things, but wasn’t at all bothered by our neighbours ducks
