lots of miles, but that colour/alloys combo really suits it. I wonder what it’ll go for?

I'm not usually a Merc fan but that looks good. Pillarless coupe FTW.

That looks like a winner if it goes under £10k. Didn't JonMad have the previous model?

Some absolutely cracking suggestions 8-)

nuttinnew the Lancia looks like a mix of other cars from different angles, suitably rare though 8-)
Peterlplp looks suitably gangster  Do not like the van though, looks like something a lads holiday abroad would use as a drunk taxi
Mito Man I bet the bills are scary but part of me says grow a pair and buy a big engined Merc 8-) The Alfa looks really tempting, I showed it to the Mrs who said she worked on the launch of those and has spent a bit of time with them. Then she commented on how many times would it not work, but as a third car it wouldn’t matter so much...
speedingfine is that from the era of rusty Mercs or just an unlucky one?
Sundayjumper i think this is the most tempting, similar to the Impreza but the Focus is already prepared and will be cheaper to run (I can see the Subaru chewing brakes and tyres after a few runs, the Focus might get a season out of a set)
integrale_evo that looks absolutely mint, ticks the big engined Merc box very well and maybe sod the worry about bills :?

I’m hoping to use the photos to persuade the mrs to let me get a set the same for hers. All the wheels she likes would look awful.

That particular one caught my eye because it just seems to sit nicely, and actually has some decent photos.

55s seem to be under £10k, the 63s are still expensive though.

Ooofff.
I was going to suggest a gta but they’re all over budget except one which looks pretty scruffy.

I still think they’re great looking cars and probably would have had one years ago if they had been rear wheel drive.

My dad has a couple of smaller engined 156s and they drove really nicely. Much more sporty and nimble than the equivalent bmw e36 or e46 318i/320i

do you need a run around/commuting car?

( Not slagging that off, because it looks nice, but as a 3rd car what does it need to do for you?)

It doesn’t need to do anything other than be something enjoyable and I’ve got the opportunity to try something a different. I could sit the money in the bank but frankly that’s a bit boring and I’m only here once.

If it’s something particularly nice or rare that sits there for a while and only sees occasional use when I fancy it, e.g. a meet on sunny day or a track day/sprint/hill climb/ rally then that’s perfectly fine. I’ve never owned an Alfa and they do look superb, always fancied an Impreza, something else with a big engine like the Mercs that have been posted or even just something silly from the barge world. I’d love something like an Elise or a Caterfield but they’re more expensive, or a Mustang project but again more expensive and more than I want to spend. I suspect I might end up buying something in the next couple of months then swapping up to an Elise/Mustang/something else very long term.

I tend to agree with Rich on this one - I'd not class something like that as 'interesting' enough TBH.

its a normal car, with all the compromises of being a normal car. If you only had one car that you needed to commute/carry stuff/carry people/etc in, then it would be quite a nice choice.

But what’s the point in having another car that’s not as fast/fun as your existing fun car or as practical as your existing practical car?

Acid test - would you still find a place for it in your line up if it had a Vauxhall badge.
