You feel the cold a lot more once you get older. And kids accelerate ageing. Ergo, yes. :P

Must say that the cold doesn't usually bother me, but I'm really feeling it this year. Just checked and mine's the Marmot Solaris, and it kept me nice and warm this morning with outside temps at -3
Ok Anna!

I got a red parka in the end, it was nice and toasty.

Was nice and toasty...?

RIP red Parka. :(

What brand of red Parka did you go for, and I hope you spent the necessary 4-figure sum on it.

Beard growth is very helpful in winter.

Layers here too, plus a body warmer/ Gilet is very nice alwhen you still need arms to work.

Dave!

I think it was somebody Anderson from dat der Copenhagen. Whether that is some fancy make, I could not say, it only needs to be warm. :)

I have many many fleece/shell layers and gilets or body-warmers as we called them in the early 80s. Then have the Berghaus gore-tex jacket to layer on top for mountains et.

8-) - where was that??

A wind chilled -40’s the lowest I’ve been to. Moscow in February.
Northern Canada. A place called Snow Lake funnily enough. That was a particularly vicious winter. It rarely seemed to get above -30

Awesome!!! Did you try that "Throw a cup of boiling water in the air" thing...

With Moscow it was -20 static air temp but a pretty strong wind (~40mph) from the east so it was Windchilled -40. I had about 8 or 10 layers on top but only had a pair of Jeans on my lower half. It was I first discovered that that "Shrinkage" thing is actually true...

It was like looking at my tackle through a set of binoculars the wrong way round...

My lightweight, wind- and waterproof Peter Storm hooded jacket (£40 from Blacks, probably in a sale) is keeping me nice and warm, with a Peter Storm gilet underneath (£15 from Millets iirc, probably in a sale), or my ParkRun super thin jacket, or both.

Just layer up. We went to Andorra & were too hot as we had good layers on. We had also taken on a lot of drink. A lot.
