Two separate Hyundai Velosters today. First one was next to me queuing for a junction and I appreciated anew how cool they are - I looked at them for my stepdaughter but they were more expensive than I anticipated and auto gearboxes are rare. I'll take your word for it Rich. I think I've only ever seen them in black or red. Wouldn't usually give one a second glance as they're not my favourite Yank tank from that era, but this was jaw-dropping in the metal.

Looking at the article, the wrap works a lot better in the studio with similar comic book styling. I think a BMW art car style wrap would appeal to me more.

I can't see it having a practical application in the real world. If you have clear windows and lights the illusion won't work and then you just have a shit looking wrap

Good morning for spotting cars. I saw an M coupe, can't remember the last time I saw one out and about. They stand out so well on the road. Me and a guy in a lovely looking yellow S2000 shared a knowing nod.

I was taking the car to discuss ppf with someone (in the end a no go for mine), but they had in some serious cars a (PTS 992 GT3RS, PTS S/T, PTS 991 GT3, 991 GT3RS).

FFS do Porsche actually do any standard colour options on the GT series cars these days? They all seem to be PTS.

I’m sitting in a Porsche showroom right now and there’s a black GT3 RS - I’m fairly sure that’s a standard colour. There is a 992.2 GTS in PTS San Marino Blue and it is gorgeous. So I can see why people do spec cars in their choice of colour. On a 992, the most expensive normal metallic options are about £3k and PTS is £9k; so it’s not as mad a jump as all that.

Ipanema Blue or Amethyst PTS for me, though to be fair I’d probably choose black paint and a colourful interior.

Full car ppf is rather expensive. I just wanted something to help with the front end stone chips, but the patterns for an S1 Elise are really old and he said that he'd have to put joins in it which would end up picking up dirt and looking shite.

Plus, TBH for the cost of a couple of goes of PPF one could probably get the paint re-done.

Their ceramic coating was pretty interesting, the hard undercoat lasts 9 years apparently. Obvs not going to help me with stone chips.

I think it's worth it if you've got something very special that would be resale sensitive to being repainted, or if the paint is a particularly difficult match (like some of the fancy tricoat stuff) but otherwise, agreed .... just seems like you'd be better off paying to be repainted.

Especially as it can look shit quite quickly if not done right. The factory PPF on the 4C was appalling they didn't wrap it around the shutlines.

Re: the Elise..."the patterns are really old" - I mean, it's not like the bodywork expands over time. Why does the age of the patterns matter?

Just because the way they do it has moved on. He showed me the patterns for it on the laptop. Basically nowadays they end the ppf at the end of a panel so there's no edge / joint, but with the Elise pattern it all just stopped mid-panel.

This was the reason I was looking at it, I'm sure it'll be hard to match mine for giving the nose a once over.

My M2 had the patches of ppf on the rear arches. it didn’t look great imo - the edge just looked like a big scratch when it has any dirt on it (which would collect on the edge!)

Yeah, I've got the stickers on the rear arches, that's pretty standard on Elise and as you know, gets a good peppering. This is proper xpel ppf though, and it seems like most of his customers got the whole car done.

I used to care about stone chips but it doesn’t bother me anymore. There’s nothing cooler than a sports car peppered with stone chips. You see all the priceless racing cars at the big festivals with road rash and it’s CAF and tells a story

Kind of worthless opinion though as everyone wants a mint car when you come to sell.
