I'm surprised the Scottish government are being so cautious in lowering the level and measures up here given the current number of cases and deaths. Things like making facemasks compulsory on public transport from next week, not immediately is also baffling.
Cheers,

So that people have a chance to buy one before they're banned from travel.

I just assumed they’d want it in immediately and people could use scarves, buffs etc as that’s better than nothing?

No surprise give the other similar reports from other countries. I’m amazed the uk still thinks it was February for the first case

Officially yes, but we haven’t started the process of going back through cases from November to February to reconfirm the new start point like other countries have done. We keep bleating on about needing more data to build up a clearer picture of the virus yet we’re slow off the mark on this element.

I think there was someone in the UK on the radio the other day who had symptoms of it in December and was recently tested for antibodies and found to have them.

Yip, saw that on twitter earlier. Will be interesting to see just how that develops as more people get the tests.

Also, the figures seem to be even more horrifying now that they’ve added-in those deaths from care homes.
Cheers,

Oh, I see Twitter is losing its collective shit again about tech companies tracking you and installing apps to do it. I wonder what nutjob website it is this time...

Yup, its the Beeb. Headline doesn’t really match article, but obviously social media just focus on the headline “Coronavirus: New Covid-19 tracing tool appears on smartphones.”

First couple of lines:
A Covid-19 tracing software tool has appeared in the settings of both Android phones and iPhones as part of an update of their operating systems.
The "exposure notification" tool is switched off by default, and is not a tracing app itself.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-53120290

It’s amazing to read some of the replies to threads popping up on this. Someone says it’s a tracing app, the 2nd or 3rd reply explains how it isn’t. Then its a steady slew of how people are uninstalling the tracing app immediately, f*ck Google, f*ck Apple, f*ck the government etc.

It’s really no wonder there’s people out there who believe 5G has caused coronavirus.
Cheers,

Mike.

Had to go into the office this morning for the first time since March.

Car’s battery must’ve gone flat so I got the train.

Fine on the way in, everyone wearing masks or whatever.

Got to work and none of the warehouse staff were wearing their masks properly. No one covering their noses and people taking off their mask to talk for some reason.

On the train back now, there are four other people here and no one is wearing a mask.

Government here announced a return date for schools yesterday, without telling the schools... So we’ve had an out-of-date letter in the post and an email from the school apologising and saying they don’t know any more than we do.

I had to pop something back to Argos yesterday and it was probably 30% of people wearing a mask and a few rockets ignoring social distancing.

When pubs open its going to be carnage!

I like how the government have also told places which can open that they need to get some sort of tracking system in place so they know who has been in, so in case there’s an outbreak, they can all be contacted. So these places have just over a week to implement some system... Have the government not had months to do something like this? With maybe an app?
Cheers,

Mike.

To be fair, for most places a standard sign in/out book would do.

Obviously only works up to a point though.

I was in the office yesterday too, it was fucking boring but a nice change from the house.

Even if I could only go to a few local pubs and had to put my name down I'd be happy. Wouldn't be straightforward in a city though. Is that still necessary for beer gardens?

Just need to give your real name & phone number. Not sure how this system scales to any degree though.

Presumably a lot of older pubs are like those in Edinburgh where I’ve no idea how any semblance of social distancing will be possible on the trip to the loos? Which often involve long, narrow, winding corridors and stairs...

Yeah, I wouldn’t go near public transport at the moment, too little control over everyone else. We’ve opened our office now, but it’s basically a case of “go in if you want to” rather than any sort of obligation. I’ve been in a couple of times and it’s been good to see people in person. we haven’t been too strict about PPE or anything just plenty of sanitiser and stuff, but we’re a small office and I’m pretty comfortable with everyone else’s level of cleanliness and attitude to risk (and no one is paid by the hours they do so wouldn’t come in just to be there.)

I had a proper on site pitch for a project on Monday, and whilst we made an effort to social distance it seems everyone else isn’t too fussed - the company before us had 7 people in their pitch to 5 on the clients team. That must have been pretty tight in the boardroom.

I guess the risk is it results in a lot of people getting locked down for two weeks without the virus. How do they do it? One person with the virus goes to the pub so they take the list of names and contact trace the lot?

I could end up in a perpetual cycle of pub visits and two week quarantines!

Stick a bottle of hand sanitiser next to it, it'll be reet!
