We have previously swapped PM while actually at war, including Thatcher/Major and Chamberlin/Churchill.
Thatcher/Major - not quite
And who are you gonig to swap in? Liz Truss? Michael Gove?
Are you sure you really want that?
I expect they'll get a trouncing in the local elections and then the letters will start to go in. Then we might see a leadership contest.

This is low even by Mail standards.

It's been clear for years that Boris and his ilk don't give a fuck about people. No one is going to resign and no one in the party is going to force a leadership challenge.
I guess Kier Starmer is moving Labour back towards New Labour territory with some lightly right wing talking points to try and entice tory voters who're angry at this.

I find it fascinating that people align themselves to these people like football fans. I have always felt that the system was outdated and unfit for purpose, nothing here is changing my mind.

The cabinet seems to be made of of people slightly less talented than the PM, they have over 350 seats and there has to be someone decent.

The beauty of it all is that we're in a democracy. If enough people are really that upset by it then he/they won't get re-elected, patience is all you need. Them being fined is not going to have a bearing on our everyday lives in the interim, which is my main concern.
There are plenty of other things that do have a bearing on our everyday lives which would be more interesting to me from a column inches and lively discussion perspective.

It’s worse back home. My parents generation still vote based on sides in the Civil War, 100 years ago

I'm sure there is. But the most decent politicians rarely ever make it to the top, sadly. Of the Cabinet, Ben Wallace doesn't seem too bad. I'm sure someone will be along soon though to correct me on that
I certainly can't think of anyone else.

This is the fucking problem right here. The so called free press (Mail, Express, Sun, Telegraph) who are nothing but a propaganda machine for the Tories and millions of credulous voters swallow every line without question. Couple this with a flawed FPTP voting system and you get the shitshow we're currently dealing with.

And you don’t think the Guardian et al are a propaganda machine for the left???

depends on what you mean by the left tbh. The Guardian seems to be aimed at a certain type of middle aged, middle class liberal who's moving further and further away from where actual left wing politics are going.

I hardly think the one mainstream newspaper which has a conscience can be considered a 'propaganda machine'. Unlike the right wing media which is in the pockets of those in power.
ETA: the Guardian has not covered itself in glory with Owen Jones, mind you. I certainly didn't say they're perfect

Can we not just all accept that the mainstream media are generally shit? They've all got axes to grind.
And even with those outlets who proclaim not to be baised - people still seem determined to see one if it suits their own opinions to do so.

Yes, although I think we should probably exclude the DM from the conversation on account of its ridiculousness.

This… to both Mervin and Jobbo.
The Daily Mail is comical at this stage. I’d be more worried about the Telegraph which is ‘at least we’re not the Daily Mail’ whilst being 90% Daily Mail

The problem is that people take the DM seriously, and these aren't ostensibly stupid people either.
Confirmation Bias is a hell of a drug.

I don’t think the Maily Telegraph has any authority at all these days. A total fall from grace.

I’m sure you’re right Jobbo - not read it in a while. Paywall etc. used to peruse in the lobby of a hotel I stayed in regularly

I still like doing the cryptic crosswords though. Although since Waitrose knocked free papers on the head for loyalty card members I've had to stop. Bollocks to paying for it!

If i achieve nothing else in the rest of my life, I can at least be proud of having weaned my parents off that hateful rag.

So this Rwandan processing centre thing, it's just another distraction attempt isn't it?
They probably have a file full of stories like this to pull heat from Boris when he fucks up.
