A bit worrying. One can only hope that it's because they're doing a load more testing, but deaths seem to have leveled off from their downward trajectory which makes you worry about the dreaded second spike. Hopefully not.

Heard a strange one today. My Mam knows of 3 people who have died recently, one had pneumonia and died in hospital, can’t remember what she said the cause of death was of the other 2, but she said all tested negative for coronavirus, and tested negative after their deaths- but all 3 have covid19 on their death certificates

It sounds like one of those things people spread on Facebook. Not to cast aspersions at your mum, but are these people she knows or is it a case of repeating what someone else has said? How does she know what was put on the death certificate of 3 (presumably) unconnected people?

She’s 72, Facebook isn’t her strong point and she knows a lot of people

Care homes are reporting that if anything, covid figures are under reported because they haven't been provided with any tests.

I'll ask again, if all the covid deaths are made up, what else has caused all the extra people to die in a bump away from the 5 year average which mirrors the reported deaths from covid?? Or are all the figures made up now?

Today there are lots marches / protests then 1 million people expected in Washington dc. Now, I am hoping they all have a socially distanced safe day however it will be a good indicator of the spread of the virus.

I've never said it doesnt exist after attending a funeral for a good friend in the pub Jan 2. Subsequently loads of us in the boozer were pretty ill at the start of the year. Speaking to one of the barmaids this week another 2 tested positive as having had it so there is a possibility we have too. It's the over reaction to locking down society to save a few percent of the population I question.

I read that, then headed over to the Wikipedia page that helpfully collates the uk figures and adds a % change day to day and saw that the number of infections has held steady around .6% increase all week, the numbers have generally fallen despite more tests being carried out. So where do they get their information? Not phe by the looks of it.

Also our friend finally returned to the local hospital for her chemo (terminal sadly but it should be life extending for her) and was told the covid ward has 15 patients in it currently.

Primary schools round here are closed again because of this. Most hadn’t actually reopened as we get 2 weeks for the Whit break so they would’ve opened on Monday for Reception, Yr1 and Yr6 for the first time since lockdown. We got the email at 7pm last night to say they were staying closed.

Was watching something about the R number before, not suggesting it's the case for now, but sounds like when the infection numbers are small the R number can be disproportionately high.

Sounds arse about face, so I had a read about this and found:

‘Experts say that as the overall number of cases reaches low levels, outbreaks will still be seen but R will become less important. That is because in a local outbreak the R value would look high, but the number of infections would be low and the outbreak would be in a small area, and therefore controllable.’

Therefore as the overall uk numbers are staying low (by the phe numbers) it must mean that there have been some low level localised outbreaks that would have pushed the local r number up. As we’ve been previously told r is everything the local media have basically not understood this and over reacted (no surprise there) which means that now Karen has panicked and so have the local schools, etc, etc. This could have been 30 people in a care home and fairly easily contained but there is no details of the outbreak. As with a lot of things context is everything.

Some of the above is obviously supposition but I think a fairly logical extrapolation based on the data and the experts statements.
