MOT result:

More or less. Misty headlight was an advisory. Everything else was fine.

That's never happened before. Every car I've owned has needed something at MOT, and usually a lot....

The 125i coupe is just as much on the radar of the people who buy 130is, I believe - they are aware that it's simply a remap away from a 130i engine.

I reckon it’s almost always cheaper to buy a decent used example than a shitbox which will cost even more in the long run to rectify.

oooh, that's worth remembering. Does this gain apply to the earlier 6 cylinder and the later 4 cylinder (if there even was a later 130i)?

Sadly Mike none of the E82 125is had hydraulic power steering. They always had the electric rack. They weren't quite like the 130i where they changed from hydraulic to electric steering partway through. You can even see the bracket where the pump used to fit. The engine is very similar to the 130i.
The 135i coupe always had hydraulic steering though. I guess you get used to the electric one over time but the one I tried was on normal tyres when I looked so it was a bit disappointing - I'd thought it might still be on RFTs. Didn't help I'd just got out of my 'ti when I tried it so I might be spoiled. Even Chris Harris commented positively on the Compact steering but that could have been just because he hadn't had chance to drive another purple tag rack at the time he had the 325ti on track

Never knew that Mike! I had considered chopping mine in for one now I can downsize, as I love the N52 in mine and would like to try it in something smaller, but that alone would put me off the 125i I think. So yes, good excuse to go with a 130i or 135i.

There wasn't a later 130i Jon - they all came with the 3.0 N52 straight six. In the E90 3-series the N52 engine was replaced with the N53 c2007 which had the Efficient Dynamics gubbins over the N52. The N52 is considered to be pretty reliable, less so the N53.

So 125i coupe and 130i hatch both N52, the former in a slightly detuned state.

The RS4 is looking great, bumper gaps aside which will be an easy fix. For the price that’s incredible value.

When mine goes in to Flewy (stop taking all my money house!!) it will be a far bigger bill but I can’t wait to see the end result, watching the process will be fun aswell.

The reasons I wasn’t hugely keen on the RS4 to own are now the reasons I’m really fond of them. The engine note sounded a little false and the engine felt like a powerful 3.0 litre rather than a 4.2, a bit like it was a big engine being held back.
Compared to modern stuff though I’d jump all over it if I wanted a 4wd saloon or estate that size. It’s quite a special car and I think the big 3 all nailed their respective talents when this was new. RS4, M3 and C63.

The B8 RS4 is equally as cool and the blue estate that I see regularly looks fantastic and sounds great, it’s a special car.

It’s a nice feeling to find the cars that tick your buttons.

Dead right about the big 3 really bringing their A-game back then!

I think the B8s look fantastic but they only come with homosexual gearboxes, so that's that. Pass.

I know exactly what you mean - this is how mine felt until the carbon cleaning was done, like it was on the leash. I guess a high-revving N/A is going to suffer the affects of having its lungs blocked way more than something with a turbot.

Once the carbon cleaning had been done, it really was a lot different to drive, especially above 5.5k when the inlet flaps go into full attack mode. I love it

What about the gap between the top of the grille and the leading edge of the bonnet?
