But if they let spectators get so close without marshals etc what do they think is going to happen? Amazed its not happened sooner. I recall that bloke who used to dress up as the devil and appear at stages waving his fork. If one had fallen off as a result of being distracted would they have charged him?

I don’t think it’s an over-reaction. It’s practically impossible to Marshall the full stage lengths - hundreds of miles per day. They need to prevent people from acting like gargantuan bell-ends and risking the riders for some vanity pish.

Now, this might be a bit controversial, but couldn’t the cyclists have looked where they were going and gone round her?

Not like she kept out and was moving around erratically, she was just stood with a bit of cardboard. Would they have arrested a parked car if they’d all piled into it?

Not really, the road was packed and anyone at the front of the peloton slowing down would’ve had the same effect.

The woman was a dumbass and some of the riders ended up with injuries that will affect their careers. She should absolutely face some consequences.

If the guy had wanged a rider in the face with his fork due to being a selfish bellend, not paying attention and causing a massive pileup, then sure.

Veritasium has another go at explaining FTTWDDW and... I'm still confused, but he did win the bet and there's a link to a model you can DIY.

From Smartereveryday they made a see through carburettor. Video starts at the cool slo-mo bit.

Found these whilst working today, from September 1936! The paper is my local paper from Teesside, what would eventually become the evening gazette

That’s awesome James

I’ve started collecting newspapers for my son of major world events. Started with 9/11 and have continued.

Was just using Google Earth to do a fence calculation, helpfully they updated the maps earlier this year. Noticed something sticking out quite a bit a mile away.
