Wow blast from the past.

York drag way.

Not perfect out of the box but it's amazing how many people who didn't know me 20 years ago now talk about how much they admired that car now they do know me.

John hopefully enjoyed it as much as I did đŸ˜ŽđŸ»â˜€ïž

He'd have enjoyed a Z4M Coupe a lot more, no idea what he was thinking!

I had a z4m coupé on loan when they came out. I didn't like the way it bounced down the road but probably down to the tyres. Also compromised boot space with the battery.

Not if he had a lot of bread to transport

As good as it may be I'm afraid the Z4M isn't "special" enough when compared to the M coupe IMO.

Maybe the blokes at BMW should have welded a longer roof on the Z4.

Having owned both 3.0 and Z4M they’re pretty different.
I think people get hung up on the 3.0Si being almost as quick as the Z4M in the real world, but it’s missing the point.

The steering was massively better on the M, with a hydraulic rather than electric rack. The M had a more compliant ride, and felt more surefooted until provoked. The M was great at second gear drifts on mountain roads, but the brakes were poor.

I enjoyed both for what they were, but the M is definitely worth the extra money.

The Z4M was a lot like the E36 M3. it just looked too much like a normal 328i/z4 3.0si. I know there were lesser engine Z3coupes too, but i don’t remember ever seeing one in this country - So the z3M was basically “special” looking, like every other generation of M3 with special bodywork.

The Z3 Coupe certainly was ‘special’ looking, but probably not in the way you meant 😂 It’s a wilfully ugly car but not in a cool and interesting way like an Alfa SZ, and slapping some wider arches and wheels on it for the M version doesn’t cure that.

It’s not as if I see many coupe versions of the Z4 either, but the styling simply works on both the non-M and the M versions.

yep, i highlighted the word special on purpose! The fact we’re talking about it and how much it splits opinions is enough to highlight the point really.

They did non-m z3 coupes on the continent, but not in rhd. There are a couple over here, including converted cars. Not difficult when the are plenty of rhd z3 donor cars!

Ah, now then, the zcoupe had arches for sure, but were the M's any wider?

"If you look at a BMW,
and wide arches are not there,
is it still an M?"

- Ayrton Senna (probably).
