There's a long long while to go before it's fully played out.

The fact that we have done a shite job of controlling the virus and our first peak has dragged on so long probably means that long term we're less likely to see any more big spikes, as long as everyone doesn't suddenly say sod it, and go completely back to normal.

I expect those that contained it quicker and have had far fewer cases so have very little immunity ( assuming there is at least some from thaose that have had it ) are a bit more worried and need to be ready to jump back into restrictions if there's an outbreak spike.

There is a reason why the government is still building Nightingale hospitals. This isn't going anywhere for a while. I'm sure the government are trying to get the economy going a bit so it doesn't flat line.

There is some concern in that our daily deaths are still a lot higher than other places in Europe and I read a report yesterday that said a lot of places in England hadn’t actually hit their infection peak yet.

Hopefully the government have some actual data to show that now is a good time to ease restrictions and it’s not just a knee jerk distraction from awkward questions.

I guess its more the fact that the first wave still hasn't really gone anywhere. I know its flattened out, but it still seems like an awful lot of people are dying every single day.

FWIW, some of the numbers you see from other countries in terms of number of cases to deaths simply don't add up. I don't really believe that you're significantly more likely to die from the virus here than in Russia or Brazil!

It will be very interesting to look at the statistics after it all dies down and someone has sifted through them and leveled the playing field for all nations.

Probably the most encouraging thing is that there has been a significant jump in testing (on average) and the new cases figure has not jumped with it.

No question the government is balancing economy and infection, and I can't see that it will be possible to analyse with any certainty whether they've got it right given the number of factors. I'm broadly supportive of reducing measures, but that's easy to say when none of my loved ones are sick.

Yeah, looking at our number of cases gives a pretty crap curve, testing was ramped up massively as hospital admissions were dropping so the curve looks very flat, better off looking at the deaths figures which are a better reflection of actual infection rates assuming the percentage of people dying is fairly constant. Of course if the hospitals became overwhelmed and they were having to restrict treatment and letting others die with no intervention it would skew that curve.

I don't think Brazil are lying, their number of cases is still in the exponential phase, so there's still going to be a lag between those huge case figures and number of deaths.

Russia however I don't believe in the slightest!

Van Tam had mentioned a few times that he'll be interested to see the excess death rates in other countries as this pans out, he's implying some countries are applying a rosie picture to their statistics.

We went to the park today for a walk. Had to get out of the house. People were pretty good at distancing on the grass:
But less so on the walkways. My son gave the stinkeye to anyone who came too close..

They need to get the antibody testing, mentioned already but I was very ill pre lockdown, and I know mother people in similar, afaik the earliest confirmed case is now October.

This thing was running around the world way earlier than we thought!

We work in a massive open office, about 8,000 of us across a handful of buildings. The director has told management to go back in from this afternoon, rest of the office staff to follow. We can’t have everyone on site and maintain social distancing. I think I also missed the change in government advice about working from home where possible which has been incredibly successful where I work.

We've been putting some people back in to offices to do contact centre work but are reconfiguring phones so that every (alternate) second desk is in use to observe social distancing, but the vast majority of people are just being told to work from home until at least September.

We’ve just been through a big cost saving exercise now we’ve opened the new office building. Someone spotted that the new building was designed to be open and modern so had(!) plenty of space and a nice working ambience and temperature. After six months of being open we’ve closed a load of satellite offices and moved them into the new building so we now have narrow walk ways, higher temperatures and crucially no opportunity to spread out to maintain social distancing. We also have a 100% hot desk policy.

Asking all of us to go back to work in the office and following guidelines just cannot work. Of course, this is all verbal requests...

Sadly I fear you're right. Silly thing was I was part of the early crew at Gaydon so even though I was new I got the exact same nice window seat every day. That still sucked balls so for the late starters on school run it must of been abominable.
