What seats are they?Sundayjumper wrote: Mon Jul 15, 2019 3:33 pmI think the standard seats will be a bit rubbish for track days. Too slippery. So:NotoriousREV wrote: Mon Jul 15, 2019 3:11 pm ...not sure what's good for mainly road and the occasional trackday...

This is quite a cool opportunity to not go trying to make it a perfect oem garage queen that it’ll never be, enjoy the fact it was so cheap and have some fun. Racey seats, momo wheel, why not?

Mirco ST:
https://mircoseats.com/p171,mirco-st-seat.html
This particular model is especially tall. Like me

Mirco is an inexpensive Polish brand. The ST isn't FIA certified but they have other seats that are, so I'm comfortable they're a legit manufacturer.
Previously I had Bimarco Futura, they're now in The Compact. Very similar to the Mircos, but with FIA certification.
You quickly get into a world of expensive pain and frustration when you fit buckets though. The only completely plug-n-play full setup (AFAIK) is the genuine Porsche GT3 stuff. ££££££££s. But they put the seat too high up for me. I sat in YK's car and my head was pressed up against the roof. No chance of me driving with a helmet on.
Design911 do some side mounts that will attach to the stock runners and have a mount for the seat belt receiver. If you're not planning on running harnesses, they'll do fine.
Because I'm freakishly proportioned I've spent AGES faffing about trying to get mine right. I think it's just about done now. I have:
Brey-Krause floor adapters (quite expensive, but seem to be the only option for me that also provides 6-pt harness attachment)
Cheapo generic side mounts (because I knew I'd need to cut them up a bit)
Replica harness mounting blocks (someone on 911uk got a batch made that are a copy of the genuine GT3 items)
Schroth Porsche-specific harnesses
Mirco ST seats
With immense faffing I've got the seats in as low as they can possibly go, I think. Low enough for me to drive while wearing a helmet, anyway, which was the aim.
I liked the look of the Mirco Classic seat for a road car:
https://mircoseats.com/p191,mirco-classic-seat.html
Low sides should make them fairly practical. I can't find any info other than what's on the website though, I'd want to read some feedback or see some real pics before splashing out.

I’ll have a think about it. I like the look of the standard seats, to be honest. I’m in no rush to fix them.

Mmmm. Love me a bit of beading
Is that just a result of the clay and polish or have you waxed/sealed it?

Waxed/sealed with Meguiars Ceramic Hybrid Wax. It’s brilliant and only £12.GG. wrote: Tue Jul 16, 2019 11:34 am Mmmm. Love me a bit of beading![]()

You might be able to get it looking less like an old scrotum if you get it damp and go over the leather with a heat gun. Although I can’t tell if that’s how they looked like brand new as some early 00’s Mercs were like that

How about not having a sig at all?

982 Supple Leather Seats/Trim
I’m guessing this means ruffled leather?

That's a lot of farts and poo you've scrubbed out of that seat.

Autoglym Interior Shampoo and a melamine sponge. Didn’t even need to scrub, just a gentle wipe clears up the skid marks.

Tough decision to make today after several parcels arrived at the same time. Do I re-dye my seats/steering wheel/knob or do I replace the whining accessory drive idlers? Haven’t got time for both. I’m thinking the seats are less physical work in this heat.

Re: eBay 996 build thread
I just got some of this on your and JL's recommendations. Got some beading this morning anyway, and that's just after snow foam + clay, before applying this wax as well, and with no polishing.NotoriousREV wrote: Tue Jul 16, 2019 12:20 pmWaxed/sealed with Meguiars Ceramic Hybrid Wax.
