As a fallback you can't go wrong with Weber charcoal tbh.
I quite agree, but it's bloody expensive though isn't it?
It is but you get what you pay for compared to most of the crap sold by supermarkets and DIY stores. It burns cleaner, hotter and for longer so I tend to use less of it, so the cost differential isn't quite what it first seems.

The Briquettes are often £12 or less when on offer for 8kg in Go-outdoors.
Its out of stock or not on sale at the moment there so I've ordered some restaurant compressed charcoal logs to try online.

They sold out because they were effectively selling them for £9.60 odd a bag, delivered, just before Easter.

Bought three thick steaks and have had one bbqd for lunch last couple of days... one to go. They're awesome.
I'm so glad I pegged for gas, getting so much more use out of it.

Whatever you call it, it's awesome.

It looks like I’m christening my rotisserie tomorrow with a whole chicken. I’ll also be attempting home made BBQ sauce.

If you’re an American

Weber seem to call them barbecues.

They're septics - no regard for correct terminology
I'd quite like an outdoor kitchen with one I must admit. And pizza oven, bbq, smoker and a tandoor just to cover all bases

Nothing wrong with having goals
I find there’s more appeal in the unusual things, some people don’t realise how much food can be BBQ’d or smoked beyond sausages and burgers and how good a quality it can be. I’ve been fortunate enough to try a well respected chefs menu a few times who is big into his smoking and it was just another world, it’s like I hadn’t tasted food before the difference was that good

The Americans call them grills; over here Weber’s own marketing calls them barbecues. Don’t start this stupid argument again, Mike. For a start, you’re incorrect

Have I done this one before?

I don't recall doing.
I must admit I didn't expect you to bite so easily

It’s almost as if charcoal munchers think you can’t control the heat with gas, when ironically that’s easier than doing so with fire.
Anyway, whatevs. I’ll simply Be More Broccers and leave it now.

May as well do two
Once you've gone to the effort to set it all up, stick another one on for lunches/curry etc.
This is my usual bbq sauce, comes out quite runny but very tasty.
250ml (8 fl oz) apple juice
137ml (4.5fl oz) ketchup
3 tablespoons cider vinegar
1 tablespoon soy sauce
2 teaspoons molasses (i used black treacle)
1/2 teaspoon pure chili powder
1/2 teaspoon granulated garlic
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
In a small saucepan over medium heat, mix the sauce ingredients and
let simmer for about 5 minutes. Then remove the saucepan from the
heat. Taste and add more salt and pepper, if desired.

Thankyou, I might pinch some bits of that! It’s the first one I’ve seen with apple juice in it.
I’ve got a recipe I’m going to try, may modify it into a BBQ cola sauce...

Well I've bought some 'restaurant grade charcoal' from our local butchers whilst getting some steaks - £15 for 15kg. Will see how it stacks up tomorrow.
