What struck me most was how utterly beautiful Zimbabwe is. I guess I need to visit Africa at some point.

As for the cars, With my well documented love of Italian tat, the Montecarlo is fabulous and Clarkson's mods were surprisingly tasteful. I also have history with the Stag an despite the accelerator being more of a volume pedal, it's a car that makes you feel good in the same way as a Jag or Alfa does. I'd have gone for a later Capri as the fake vents in front of the rear wheels offends me.

That was a great episode to finish on, and although the cars weren't to my taste, the scenery was stunning and some interesting holiday ideas there.

Ended up stuck at a work event last night so haven't managed to watch this yet. Really looking forward to it - seems like the true ending of an era that stretches back to being a teenager and eagerly awaiting the latest TG to air on Sunday evening.

I was thinking the same, it's feels really significant! I have fond memories of TG and repeatedly re-watching Clarkson DVDs at Christmas in the 90s, and then this trio have been a backdrop in life for decades. I think it's because they made TV feel really intimate, like hanging out with a bunch of pals, rather than being 'presented' at.

Anyway, the 'Brothers in Arms' scene was  although Dire Straits is the perfect dad rock choice for those three

It was genuinely groundbreaking back then. Aside from car mags that’s where you got your car news.
There was no other media, so Sunday nights were special. Which I guess is why when you got the odd crap episode you’d get really frustrated. Another week till the next one. Now people doom scroll online for hours, time is less valuable.
Drag racing road cars on a runway - there’s entire YouTube channels dedicated to just that now.
The cinematography was always amazing, you look at those old episodes and they must have spent a fortune on helicopters.

Was thinking although it’s ended maybe, just maybe, they would do the odd special (e.g every other xmas). Considering their age and the amount of crew there was , who would obviously go on to do other things. It wouldn’t be so easy to put back together. Very good show but sadly that is the end.

Well that was really rather marvellous. A very fitting end to everything.

As an aside, what was in Hammond’s boot when they were loading the silver?

I’ve still never watched an episode of TGT. Clarkson still annoys me.

Yep that was a tearjerker. Particularly for me as my FiL passed away last year and Dire Straits was one of his favourite bands.

The show as a whole was excellent I thought. It dragged a tiny bit in some sections early on but was a fitting send off. I wonder if they'll repatriate those three cars back home and/or their original Lancia and Merc?

They’re back home, the Lancia and Trump look like they’ve been lightly restored - I imagine we’ll see them on Hammond’s show.
