Wonder Woman - Bit late to this as I was looking forward to it and it had good reviews but what a sack of shit. Remember reading last year that it was a wet dream for feminists (wonder what they thought of the opening scenes with the island full of porn star perfect women) where a single woman independent of men tries to stop WW1 - a great fuck you to all the people who died during the war and conveniently ignored all the ordinary women but ignoring that minor point she spends the whole movie being dragged around and guided by a man, is thick as shit and mentally weak.
And furthermore the mixing of mythology, history and fiction has left me with 2 confused kids who also got pretty bored

Congratulations on ruining a great movie for youself. If only you'd ignored the internet circle jerking you could have enjoyed one of the better action movies of the last few years.

Casino Royale

Possibly a bit late to the party with this one, but I’ve never watched any of the Daniel Craig Bond movies (other than the first half of Skyfall and the opening sequence of Quantum of Solace.

I like the brutality of Craig’s Bond. Much more like the book than any of the others. He’s a barely controlled thug. I’ll watch the other movies now. I think I got a bit jaded with Bond as a cheese fest, seeing it rebooted like this has got me interested again. I probably should have watched this 12 years ago.

Funnily enough, my 14 year old son commented on how modern this film looked in every aspect other than phones, being pre-smartphone. You tend to forget how recent smartphones are.

Speaking of bad movies I had cause to idly revisist The Matrix reloaded & Revolutions and damn me judging them as a set of stinkers for the last fifteen years but they haven't actually aged badly at all. I'm thinking a decade of exposure to Michael Bay style ADHD action films has thrown quite a flattering light onto the two Matrix sequels. The car/bike chase in Reloaded is absolutely cracking and even the finale with the armourless mechs versus melee combat robo squids doesn't seem quite so ridiculous once you've experienced Optimus Prime riding a T-Rex.

We watched all three not long ago because one of our friends had never seen them, they're pretty frustrating as a series. Still some of the best looking Sci-Fi/Action movies ever made with some interesting themes, especially in hindsight considering the Wachowskis have both came out as trans.

The script and plot are mostly garbage though. It'll probably be a while before I watch them again.

Daniel Craig is my favourite bond for that reason and Casino Royale is my favourite of his movies. My only issue with it is that it should have ended at the hospital, the bit in Venice feels tacked on because someone realised they hadn't had a big dumb action set piece. I'd skip Quantum of Solace if I were you, it's not very good. The rest of his are great though.

I probably ask the same question every time Bond is mentioned, but why was Timothy Dalton so unpopular as Bond? I thought he nailed it.

I think it was just the wrong time. We needed Pierce Brosnan kite surfing a tsunami on a satellite dish to properly kill goofy Bond and the Bourne Identity to show that there's a better way.

This has just reminded me I watched Atomic Blonde a wee while ago and it was really good.

I liked Dalton as bond too - and they were proper action/adventure/thriller films, rather than a chase...fight...chase...fight...silly story to make the next chase location fit...fight... like 99% of the action films made now.

I think at the time Dalton came along, I thought he was a bit “stiff”? He seemed more like the Chairman of the local Rotary Club than Bond. I’d have to rewatch because I haven’t seen Living Daylights since it came out.

That's always the one that sticks in my mind as the best one - definitely worth a go. I know he followed on from the Moore era but even then ole Rog had stopped flying space shuttles and stuff.

Now I KNOW I'm repeating myself - but For Your Eyes Only is the perfect Bond film. Proper story, proper baddies, proper action, proper Bond, proper cars (and the 2CV) - the lot. They shrugged off the cartoonish Bond in total and it was brilliant.

I like how he’s presented as a psychopath rather than damaged due to the things he’s seen and done.

Skyfall really explores the idea of 00 agents being nothing more than disposable weapons.

I like Dalton as Bond also. For me he has been far closer to Fleming's Bond than anyone, DC included. In the novels he is anything but a thug, or a womaniser certainly from my recollection. He is good at both thuggery and womanising but he is a more nuanced character than that but what really flows from the books is Fleming's snobbishness and elitism. It has been a year or two since I read them though so perhaps my own memories are rusty.

Watched Aquaman - was visually spectacular and enjoyable and continued the good slightly tongue in cheek humour of Wonder Woman and Justice League.

Watched Grindelwald - much much darker than I expected but I enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next one which presumably will have more young Dumbledore.

You are quite correct in stating that this film is a sack of shit. It truly is!! I turned it off after about 30mins.

Mission Impossible Fallout - Good old fashion action movie, only let down by the fact that you pretty much know that Tom Cruise will save the day as usual with a second to go as that’s what happens every time.

Wreck it Ralph 2 had high hopes for this after loving the first. Sadly although very funny in places it really dragged at times too.
