But their mortality rate appears to be greater than normal as they won’t treat over 65s?

This is my fear now, it's already too late, the spread has taken hold and people aren't taking it seriously. The figures are days behind, and with such a spike its easy to be complacent over the numbers you see.

Well they say we’re 2 weeks behind Italy. Surprised they’re not erecting temporary structures in hospital car parks for when the inevitable arrives.

They said 4 weeks but yes, there should be forward planning as of well, about a week ago. Not much seems to have happened so far as I'm aware...

What do people think we should be doing?

Full lockdown of the borders and everyone staying in their houses for 4 weeks? That’ll probably work fine until you stop doing that, and how long could you manage locked in your house with no one able to distribute food etc?

NotoriousREV wrote: Thu Mar 12, 2020 10:46 am MrsREV is currently out shopping. There’s no bog roll or pasta on the shelves at all. Fucking madness. How much bog roll does the average family get through in 2 weeks anyway?!
I’m really pleased that the wife buys in bulk anyway, she buys about 3 months supply at a time when Cushell is on offer

Plus my shower gel and shampoo I buy in bulk for work when it’s on offer so we should be good for about 6 weeks of poohing and 3 months of bathing.

If it all kicks off, we are off to the Scottish hills camping, just need to buy 10 Jerry cans for fuel supplies :D

Social distancing rather than people being shot on sight. Italy currently is allowing only food stores and pharmacies to open and that’s because they moved too slowly. Better to slow it down by reducing social contact now rather than having to lock everything down in a fortnight.

Stop all public events, only 1 person shopping at a time where possible, reduce travel to a minimum and safeguard those who can’t financially afford to not work for 2 weeks.

Agree - people should also be advised to work from home where they reasonably can - I think that was a key missed opportunity today.

Local big Tesco had no pasta, bog roll, rice, pulses or beans. Tuna, tinned tomatoes, ibuprofen and paracetamol down to the last few items. Forgot to check whether there was hand sanitizer. Odd experience when everything else was stocked as normal.

Any stats on recovery rates??

Numbers of people diagnosed, had a week of feeling shit and then recovered??

Could do with a positive story..

Rev and Dave have it right. The point about a lockdown is that you stop the spread from one person to the other. If everyone who has it is contained and subsequently recovers then you effectively kill off the disease. Until you start social distancing you can't get a lid on it.

No-one under 10 has died from it, that’s the only positive I can see.

Hopefully that is still true, I think I heard it on the radio.

Terrible for this country so far. Closed cases show 8 deaths and 19 recovered. That's a 29.6% mortality rate.

From the BBC: “Italy has now seen 1,016 deaths, amid a total number 15,113 infections. Civil protection officials say 1,258 have recovered”

That puts the mortality rate somewhere between 7% and 45% 😳

Pretty sure we’re on 10 deaths now.
