They may have been refurbished in the wrong colour but they still look OK. I'm quite enjoying seeing cars which originally had bi-colour or painted/faced wheels getting them done all in silver - much more common now than refurbing them the awkward original finishes.

That's exactly what I'm planning to do with Mrs Mik's car (which may be the same wheels as your S6?). I'll let her bash them a bit more first, but I see zero point in attempting to replicate the original finish, which is an only-slightly-darkened silver, with a diamond cut which 95+ % of people wouldn't even notice. Seems silly to me.

I do have those wheels in the same finish. Not bashed. Every now and again from the right angle you can see the polished bits shine against the rest of the spokes and can see what they were going for.

You often see Q5s with the same design but the grey bits in black and I don't think that works at all. Never seen them all silver - if you find a photo or get yours done, do post it.

the Mrs’ 320 has diamond cut 19s on it, aside from the fact she’s kerbed the fuck out of them, they have an issue anyway where the lacquer cracks around the centre hole and you get milky corrosion spreading.

i keep on thinking about refurbing them solid colour, but tbh - i know they’ll be fucked a month later anyway, so i haven’t done it!

I was really hoping the diamond cut phase would have started to die out by now, there really aren’t many modern wheels that I think look good, and it just doesn’t last in the vast majority of cases.

I didn't think it would last due to the corrosion problems as water gets under the lacquer if it chips. But it's ubiquitous. Good to see some companies make alloys that work if you paint them all silver, as VW have.

We've got these on the Superb and they're starting to look tatty now - mainly due to kerbing...



I haven't seen any yet that have been refurbed to a single colour though.

Adjustable height, good, variable springing and compromised geometry, bad. Plus it takes up space and I’ve heard aftermarket setups can be fussy and unreliable.

I guess I’m a bit of a snob too. See lots of show cars which look great parked up but silly at their raised driving height. I prefer having something fairly low most of the time even if it doesn’t look ground scraping when parked up.

I’m planning on a set of lift cups for the four door with its fwp splitter. They fit to existing coilovers and are for obstacle lift rather than constantly driving on, and when deflated become solid so don’t affect spring rate at all, plus you don’t need level sensors of an air tank.

Mk4 Golf/Bora is peak VW interior design/quality IMO.

Yeah, that has about as much in common with a Smart as a NASCAR does with the Camry body its wearing.

Yeah you could hang any body off that with a matching wheelbase (or adjust the wheelbase to suit etc), but I can see why a smart coupe body would be a giggle for it.
