Today’s want
Re: Today’s want
Gordon Murray only knows how to design one kind of car* but in his defence, he is pretty good at it.
*yes I know that's not true, go fuck your hat.

Re: Today’s want
Comments on that evo post from Peter Stevens are interesting.
One recognising that Murray oversaw the project, but didn’t do the design work.
One querying who owns the IP to the original F1 design - either Ron Denis, or him…..

I'm surprised you muppets like that. Interior's minimalism has been ruined, and the lights are just silly:

I wasn’t going to put down a deposit…. But now I have. Just to annoy Chris.

Re: Today’s want
What Rich and Mik said. That works. And if you’re going to make a restomod, do it from the Daddy.mik wrote: Fri Aug 15, 2025 9:35 pm I’m usually not big on ModTro designs, and that is VERY reminiscent of the original….
But.
I think it looks great![]()

I was honestly waiting for Jobbo to agree with me and now I'm just shocked and disappointed. Correctness licence revoked

That steering wheel looks like the kind of thing a kid with an earwig moustache would fit to his Saxo.
Re: Today’s want
Ok Chris, I do agree that the front lights lose something compared to the original and the interior isn’t as nice as the F1. Overall though, the exterior looks great to me. The proportions are right; it’s not a cartoon version as some restomods can be, it’s pretty much a direct copy and looks stunning.speedingfine wrote: Fri Aug 15, 2025 11:07 pm Interior's minimalism has been ruined, and the lights are just silly

Re: Today’s want
It still annoys me that all the fancy expensive resto mods fit weird ‘modern’ lights which don’t suit the rest of the car.
Ok, the F1 rear lights were just the most generic ones around plucked from the Hella parts bin, but they worked and looked fine, it doesn’t need weird grilled led things.
It’s not just this, I hate most of the ones retropower and singer fit to the front too. Shame there’s no way to have actual modern brightness and sharpness in a completely traditional looking housing.

I actually drove past this car on the Dartford bridge on the way down to the Goodwood Revival in 2009. I remember commenting to my friend how wonderful it looked. I didn't see it when I was at the Revival though. Didn't realise it's a one off.
I've wondered what Bentley it was ever since, so you've solved a 16 year mystery for me, thanks

Re: Today’s want
On the Gordon Murray topic I never really got down to who designed it. In my mind it’s something like Murray had an overall concept of a 3 seat mid engine layout and did the engineering for it but the actual styling was Peter Stevens. Which is perhaps why the T50 looks as awkward as it does, maybe Murray didn’t want to just rip off the design of another person. Looking at the homage now you can see what it should have looked like if perhaps Stevens was on board with the team.
How about not having a sig at all?

A far cry from that Vantage but I bet there are some parts shared. Saw this at the weekend browsing Carandclassic and thought it was rather nice, if a bit stupid:

Good point - I was distracted by the interior so didn't even check. Still, it had a balancer shaft didn't it? And while it's not a funeral car I doubt it has ever exceeded 1200rpm.
Re: Today’s want
That is glorious.

That is just ugly with an extra side of "eeeew". Also, sports a look of permanent surprise.

I wouldn’t choose a flowery design for my singer 911, but as a showcase of skill and a piece of artwork that is stunning
