So, have experienced my first benefit of Brexit! Sending my dad a present allows me the opportunity to practice my signature lots! Six separate documents to sign, and one previously unnecessary plastic envelope that'll end up in landfill.

What a win.

Lots of silly new jobs and unnecessary expense will be created by all this red tape - maybe all those artists the government told to retrain can pick up the slack

I had a slightly different experience.

I posted a Package back to my Dad Last Tuesday - I had to fill in 1 additional sticker (took 30 seconds). Pretty Standard Customs declaration sticker. The package arrived on Thursday.

BTW the plastic is highly unlikely to end up in landfill if that makes you fee any better

Two customs declarations and four invoices.

Another possible benefit: lack of stock. Just had a food delivery and most times there is one or two substitutions. This time seven and one item they didn't even bother with.

Not like it was special stuff either.

Edit: and that doesn't take into account a number of alternative products I've chosen while ordering because the usual wasn't available.

I had a delivery yesterday and it was a full compliment. Maybe not everything is because of Brexit. I'm sure many people will now jump on the Brexit blame bandwagon to paper over poor performance, so expect lots of media reports I'm sure.

Don't get me wrong - if it's led to issues I don't think they should be brushed away. But more important is that it isn't used as an excuse for other issues that have arisen for different reasons. That makes it easier for those issues to be brushed away. See the HMRC's global changes to VAT collection as a prime example.

That's probably true Dave! We are doing better than most on the vaccine (at present).

I don't think I've ever driven in Europe, so still doesn't do much for me... if you can make use of the up to 90 days in 180 at some point, anyone want to try it out? It says on the spot fines still can be handed out though.

Yes I think so far on the balance of evidence so far in this thread... a few more customs forms and a couple of truckers that had their ham sandwiches confiscated versus the ability to buy our own vaccines (without needing to be underhand like germany and buy outside of the EU scheme) and authorise their use quicker so we're millions of vaccines ahead of other EU countries - I'd put that firmly in the positive side of the ledger thus far. Early days of course, I do appreciate that.

The government also used the end of transition to slash back the silly DAC 6 reporting regime (not something a lot of you may have come across I would imagine) outside of all but actual cross-border tax evasion, saving a lot of people in the financial services industry wasted time. Equally though there is the possibility that that time may be lost dealing with more onerous passporting requirements, etc. ... we'll have to see.
