Be interesting to see what has been agreed with the EU when the detail comes out. All that seems to be publicised at the moment is fishing aspect.
I believe in the end we sent in Mortimer and Whitehouse to reel them in hook, line and sinker with their disarming whimsy re any outstanding fishing disputes.

Let’s spend months negotiating with the EU over something worth 0.1% of GDP because that’ll show the bastards

Stick your sovereignty up your arse along with anyone that goes along with the shit Boris spouts.

All depends on the deal brokered so too early to say if a total clean break would have been better. IMO that would only be the case if this is a very bad deal for us, or irreversibly binds us to certain positions or tracking the EU (i.e. the dynamic alignment / level playing field). We don't have that detail yet so we'll have to wait and see.

It's worth even less of the EU GDP so why were they so stuck on it? None of that is the point though.

That's why you're not a negotiator. Giving away all the points you know matter to your opponent but are worthless to you is not a shrewd move...

Its the principle that you can't fuck people's entire livelihoods even if they're not worth much as a whole.
Economically most of the regions of England don't pay their own way and farming is worth 0.61% of UK GDP. On that basis, who cares about Northumberland, Cornwall, farmers generally, etc. Its a very slippery utilitarian slope to judge worth solely on gross domestic product.
ETA: Appears we got no dynamic alignment provided that if divergence is too great they have the ability to levy tariffs - again, seems fair to me, subject to seeing the detail.

I'll read some of the details later but most of what I've heard so far all seems very positive and suggests reasonable compromises from both sides.

You're all so behind the curve. Leave, then change it as you go on.
Your chap Farage is in favour of the deal, so what changes do you think will happen in future?
The main failure of the leave supporters is they didn’t have any coherent plan or vision anyway

I for one am delighted, and actually feel pretty optimistic... I'm therefore not going to read this thread again until after Christmas.

I voted remain but always had a certain amount of sympathy for some parts of the leave argument. This sounds like quite a good result really.

I think that what both sides need to appreciate is that the direction of the EU since the late 90s is just as headbanger federalist as Farage is little England nationalist. Neither of those positions is ideal.
We never belonged inside the EU structures so let’s not kid ourselves. If we can be a member lite with good access to markets without all the additional political baggage and silly bureaucracy then that would be the perfect compromise.
Hopefully an acceptable peace will not be overridden by zealotry on either side. The leavers need to be delighted with what they’ve achieved and the remainers with a pragmatic view of what has been retained...
Anyway - merry Christmas you lot and let’s hope for a less divisive future ahead.

Right so it's a small lesson in life. Once we actually have a stronger hand from this weak position all sorts will happen. Every leave voter thought this. Rome wasn't built in a day.

And how are you going to get this stronger hand? What are "all sorts"? Some kind of licorice?

Some nobheads made 50 million each above a coffee shop. In. The. Uk. Plenty of opportunities in this country. The people who are scared of change aren't the sort who would be successful in life.
