I get that and it's not a bad film in its own right, I'm just a little tired of this panic to shoe in female or non white leads for the sake of diversity rather than on their own merits I suppose.
Why on earth do you think that?
These characters (including Ms Marvel) were around decades ago, they have not been created to appease political correctness like in Doctor Who.
They actually made a point in the comic books about Sam (Falcon) being drafted into the Avengers as the token black character to replace Hawkeye in order to be politically correct in 1980 and how distasteful that was. So if the producers know their Marvel history they will avoid doing that, and thus far I think they have (with the exception of the new Spider-Man MJ)
I'm aware that these characters were around long before it became a mad scramble to be PC about absolutely everything, but the only link to Wakanda is Caps shield and that felt a little tenuous as a reason to bring in this character otherwise - aside from some tech and insane physical skills he's not really a stand out character to me (same with Hawkeye, and to some degree Cap - but I can well see why he was the chosen one to start this whole series off).
It's not the creation of the characters (or anything specific about colour/creed/sex), its the choice of who and why that feels forced, is what I'm getting at. The vast choices available to them and they happen to choose a black character with nearly all black supporting cast etc. Nothing wrong with any of that, but they just don't fit with the story/character roster for me.
Ironically I am quite looking forward to Capt Marvel as I hear she's got insane levels of power available to her and i am intrigued to see how that pans out as a character. Being female as well is a nice bonus of course.
