Final series of Yellowstone

Has a feeling of “No one wants to be here but we have to finish this”

Will watch to finish it out but feels like a year or two too late.

Started watching the diplomat and it is indeed great TV and very twisty turny. Very smart writing too.

I've not watched an episode of Yellowstone, is it worth a look?

Yellowstone was very good up to a point - the point where the star (Costner) and the producer (Sheridan) started a pissing contest to see who was more important. Both lost

Then you had the writers strike meaning that they both have moved on but there’s still 4 more episodes to make to finish the series.

I’d say it’s not good enough on its own to watch unless they can conclude it properly which at the moment is unlikely

Edit - but if you like westerns, Yellowstone 1883 is stand alone and absolutely brilliant

Thanks, I might check out 1883 instead. As a child of the 80s, many a day was spent watching Westerns with my uncle.

It’s got Sam Elliot as a grisly cowboy. What’s not to love…

Slow Horses remarkable time compression, somehow makes a 40min episode feel like 20.

Are the books as a good as the adaptation?

Yes it's very good. Just accept it's not fully concluded and perv over the obvious instead.

Apart from seeing it mentioned that Harrison Ford was really good in it, I didn't know anything about it. It is great though and quite refreshing in that it is people being decent and nice to each other.

Lead is Jason Segel (Marshall from HIMYM). Whole thing is well worth the time.

Great recommendation, Mrs and I binged season 1 last week. Very entertaining although the premise that all these flawed characters share everything openly is a little hard to believe at times. But they are Americans I suppose.

Harrison Ford stoic snark is a perfect foil for Segel's good natured bumbler.

Really enjoying The Day of the Jackal. The original movie is one of my favourites and this has been a great update. Very Bond from the opening credits onwards and the soundtrack is well worth checking out too.

There's some little nods to the original, but also a very cool shot-for-shot remake of one scene from the movie.

Not feeling it after the first episode but will give it a few more.

I'm really enjoying it as well. There's one aspect that's a bit off for me but it doesn't detract from the series at all...

a. Seen in the face by the handler - how was he found and why isn't she already dead
b. On the run in Prague without any means, money, passport etc having left his bag behind

All very un Jackal like.

Yes that's the scene!

And yes, I've had similar niggles with this series where someone behaves stupidly/out-of-character for plot reasons, but I'm letting it fly as the good far outweighs the bad. There's also a couple of the little side-plots which are family related which I think are superfluous, but again, I need to let it rest.

Its done a really good job of updating the original whilst maintaining what made that one special.

I might have to dig into the books, sounds like they're a bit less condensed (which is fair enough when trying to make a TV series) and more verbose about the sociology of it.

Book1 is good/interesting although I enjoyed Series1 more.
Book2 was annoying so I'm hoping for an even better adaptation.
Book3 is weird so who knows how that'll turn out.

I've just started the new James SA Corey (The Expanse) book The Mercy of Gods which has already been licensed for TV so here's hoping for Expanse levels of adaptation excellence.

Right at the light and fluffy end of the spectrum Ted Danson is good in A man on the inside where he's a retired professor contracted to investigate a jewel theft in an old people's home. Fun and a bit of melancholy pathos ensue.

Diaz from Brooklyn 99 is unnervingly nice as the home manager.
