Had a lovely playdate with Harry yesterday, pulling apart Compact #2 for useful bits.

The Evora drama continues.

A new AC pump was ordered from Toyota at significant cost, and when it arrived it didn't include the clutch as it should (or he thought it should). He enquired, and Toyota want £700 more for the clutch. £700!! This is on top of the "4-figure" bill for the AC pump. It's been ordered, and hopefully we'll still be ready to go on Wednesday...I'm just glad it's not me who's going to be settling the bill.

I've heard the stories about Evora parts availability, but if it wasn't for the fact that nothing else has come up and we're so close now, I'd be tempted to tell them to leave it. It's been 2 months now since I agreed to buy it, and it's rubbing me up the wrong way despite not actually costing me anything. I've got time booked off on Weds, so I'll be more than a bit miffed with any further delays.

(I should point out that it's not Craig at CMC I'm annoyed with, he's been hugely helpful and spent a lot of his own time and money, it's more the situation as a whole).

It's strange as you can't envisage these ancillaries being Lotus specific ?

Alot of these parts are ripped straight from the Toyota parts bin - in this case, the AC Pump is from a 2009+ Rav4, and can be had for about $200 in the States (according to SELOC).

Other parts are modified (and usually, made worse) by Lotus themselves - like they managed to to take a perfectly reliable 6-speed box from the Auris, slapped on their own 3rd/4th/5th/6th and resulting in a gearbox that can occasionally shit out 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th. However, apparently you can't retrofit a standard Toyota box, as they "shaved down" the casing to make for the starter motor. "This part won't fit, lets just get the dremel on it"

Mine's got the standard "long range" box, so it's geared crazy long (270mph in 6th!), Mik's got Lotus's modified close-ratio offering.

Update - delayed again

A2 needs a full exhaust inc. cat from manifold back. Damn shoddy oem parts, they've only lasted 17yrs and 170k

the illuminated part of the tail lights is tiny compared to current stuff.
Things like 'leather covered interior light housing' and 'leather covered seat controls' etc seem ridiculous, but then istr period reviews said the interior was plasticky.
The ride is much better than many 'sport' spec bread and butter cars.

No, it's a friend's. No chance of me getting anything like that atm, which is all the more awkward because it does the boring s.e London, stop-start, A2/M25 stuff so well I'd happily have one just for that. That's from driving a doesn't-really-count-as-a-911 Tiptronic Carrera 4, never mind a manuel on decent roads. I'll have mine as a targa, ta.

Some nice lightweight Superleggeras for The Compact.

Although they do seem to accetuate the rear ride height. Hmm.

70bhp would be fine in a 24h race in a field of 50 cars, a 10 lap sprint race however

WWOV9D?

So, I collect the car tomorrow. There are two excess charges - £600 for the AC Pump (which garage are agreeing to pay) and then £700 for the clutch (which we thought was included in the £600 pump, but isn't).

Now, these costs only came about to hurry things along, as we had no ETA on the original, cheaper pump, so it could have been ages. Garage agreed to pay £600 to get the car out of the way a buy new OEM pump, but obviously didn't expect the extra £700, but he was backed into a corner so went ahead with the extra cost.

Obviously, garage aren't keen on shouldering another £700 - so I've just had a text saying "Seller has agreed to pay 50% of the clutch cost, if you want to pay other other 50%, thats up to you otherwise I will wear it"

What am I supposed to say to that? The Garage have been really good with this - what started with a basic inspection ended up with a 2 month saga and he's already down £600 + many hours of labour, so it doesn't feel fair him taking yet another hit, but at the same time I don't feel like I should pay it either? It was a warrantied part being replaced...

£50-100? Yeah, I'd take that hit, but it's £350...do I just pay it out of fairness to the garage?

Yeah I've kind of lost track of this. Who is the seller you are buying it from and what's their relationship to the garage. Is it a private individual and have you already paid the full amount for the car?

Personally I'd probably go halves again with the garage that's fixing it - pay another £175 and get my hands on the new car asap.

As i understand it - seller = private seller.

No stock of original pump (and clutch) available so cMC offer alternative approach.

CMC have sourced alt unit and fronted £600 cost. They do still have the orig faulty unit - which will be replaced under warranty at some point in the future. As and when that happens - no impact to CMC - they will have a new AC unit in their spares stock.

Additional clutch cost = £700.

Seller has agreed to cover £350

CMC have suggested Matty pay the remaining £350, or if he says no - CMC will eat it themselves.
