It is, as you would expect, harrowing but superbly well made portraying the horrors without being gratuitous. It’s one of those really difficult but important to watch series.

I also watched the whole thing and didn’t realise Harvey Keitel played the lead. Talk about disappearing into a character

Very opposite end of the spectrum. 3 mismatched characters thrown together to do a Podcast in rural Ireland. It’s daft but absolutely hilarious…

But… the comedy is very ‘Irish’. I’ve watched things like this in the company of English people and the Irish, and children of Irish parents are crying laughing but everyone else, just looking confused.

Probably one for Beany only…

Turning Point - The Bomb and the Cold War on Netflix

Brilliant 8 parter tracing the current tensions in eastern Europe right back to the end of the first world war but with specific reference to the USSR / Russian Empire identity and the cold war

All three of those were on our list, so it sounds like good choices.

We chose to start with Bodkin and yes, as a Scot with a half-Irish wife, they've got the sayings, humour and small-village life stuff spot on.

Jack Ryan on Prime

Bit late to the show on this but overall, it's a well made action series. I've just finished series 2 of 4. They've spent some money on it for sure. However, there are 2 bug bears

1. Jon Krasinksi only had 1 look. "Slightly Befuddled" and that's all he's got. Jack Ryan is angry - looks Befuddled. Jack Ryan is focused - Looks befuddled. Jack Ryan is horney - looks befuddled. They even make a joke about it in series 2.

Jim Greer - "Do you know what your're doing"

Jack Ryan - "Yeah I know what I'm doing"

Jim Greer - "Well tell your face"

2. The fvcking Subtitles. This one is very confusing. Series 1 was based out of the Middle East. Series 2 out of Venezuela. Many times the characters are speaking in Arabic or Spanish.

Sometimes, when characters are speaking in Arabic or Spanish, there are subtitles. some times there are none.
So you turn on the Prime Subtitle function and see that what they're talking about is very important to the story
Sometime you turn on Prime Subtitle function and is just says "Speaking Russian" or "Speaking Spanish"

I've absolutely no clue why they do this bit it's pretty irritating

I just assume that you’re not supposed to know what they’re saying because it’s suspicious foreign plotting.

Yeah I suppose but it's random - sometimes the evil plot is there if you turn on the subtitles, sometimes not.

It's odd to be honest - definately deliberate but I'm just not sure of the reasoning...

My assumption isn’t always fool proof tbh.

I watched like half of a dodgy copy of that Wolverine movie set in Japan before I figured out it was supposed to have subtitles

I'm not sure I can check easily because it's been around a few years, but my wife and I have been enjoying The Boys on Amazon Prime. Have just started season 2 so no spoilers please.

Neither of us like superhero stuff and I don't like CGI so it was a series I'd had no interest in. Despite that I'm glad I stuck through the first 5 minutes of superhero CGI nonsense. And I like the bad accents; why do so many actors play someone from a different country to the actor (Billy Butcher's actor is from NZ playing a Brit, Simon Pegg is obviously British playing an American, Homelander is Australian playing an American).

yeah, it took me a while to get past the first episode and get into it (I also have no interest in the whole superhero/Marvel crap) , but it carries on well and is worth watching.

In terms of casting, they got Butcher and Homelanders characters absolutely spot on and the show is all the better for it (Urbans Brit accent gets funnier and funnier as it goes on - in a good way)! So I can forgive the outwardly odd decisions in actor nationality.

Just finished watching Mr Inbetween on Disney+. It really is excellent. Highly recommended.

I lost interest - the further it got away from the main character, the duller it got. The first series was really good though.

I did enjoy the locations though - I used to work in Richmond just around the corner from where he "lived" and used to spend a fair amount of time in the park that a lot of the scenes were in.
