Pre-Max then? Think the 800's weren't terrible - at least the engines fit under the wings... sort of.

Flew onboard the MAX (This one both ways - https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/g-tuod) when we went to Corfu last month. Must admit i was slightly apprehensive. I'll wager however that 95% of those onboard had no idea what we were flying on.

Survived again. Bit of a harsh initial touchdown- someone screamed then over half the plane clapped

I watched it earlier. It was a scary amount of things going wrong in just the right order to create an unrecoverable situation.

As ever, and sadly, there were multiple opportunities along to the way to have taken a different path and perhaps have avoided the crash.

Obvs with my armchair export hat on, not immediately obvious the flaps were in takeoff config. Unless the 787 is just slats, but I dunno. Awful all round.

787 flaps are hard to spot from the rear. Looking at the rear view it looks like it's pitching up more and more which suggests its losing speed, which suggests dual engine failure of some description. Maybe a dual bird strike. Apparently pilots put out a mayday at 600ft then nothing.

We're flying on a 787 BA to KL in about 6 weeks and then a hop to Thailand on Malaysia Airlines...

No reason at this point to be concerned about that imho.

I really disliked the 787 I flew to Vegas in. It was loud, cramped and uncomfortable compared to the A380 I'd flown to San Francisco in 6 months prior.

Yes I don't think so - 787 has a 14 year unblemished record and the crash was with an airline that seems to have a reasonably chequered safety history.

I had an ex who refused to fly Air India regardless of how cheap it was. Not that she was an airline expert, she was a bit anxious and just refused based on the chequered history.

The story of the guy who survived in seat 11a is mental. There’s a lot of scepticism about his story, but apparently his ID and boarding pass checks out.

I was a bit sceptical too, I thought he was maybe someone hurt on the ground. To be in a plane crash where literally every other person dies but he lives and is also seemingly able to get out of a wrecked and burning plane under his own steam is crazy!

It’s a crazy freak situation indeed, but since they crashed into buildings as opposed to the ground (with the nose probably still raised based on footage) I can picture a one-in-a-million scenario where one seat benefits from all those around them acting as crumple zones, and gets partially ripped out from the main wreckage.

Going to be hard to deal with - we have friends who survived the Samina ferry sinking in Greece and suffered heavy survivor guilt.
