That looks fucking fantastic - all that light! What did it look before, sorry if you've already posted. That's a house-changer by the looks.

Yeah, the footprint hasn’t changed, but all the crappy little rooms and awkward corridors have been either combined or separated. Basically 4 rooms and one corridor are now 1 big room and 1 small room.

This is how it started.

I went for sliding doors because it’s such a big (6.5m) opening that it really doesn’t matter if the whole thing isn’t open, and it means for the rest of the (95% of the time) year there is only 2 mullions and all glass. Plus I never really like the way Bifolds stack when there’s lots of them!

I was right - that's a house-changer.

My parents' place had a similar house-changer applied a few years back - just adding a terrace out the back, nothing fancy - just a paved area and a tiled lean-to roof. I swear it gets more use than the interior of the house does - even in winter the old dear whacks a fire on and does the ironing out there

cheers, i let her have sign off on the kitchen appliances! Other than that she’s not been too involved - she knows it’s my thing!

Actually she’s quite a good “client” - when I’ve been designing and specifying stuff she’ll say what she wants (no matter how hard, expensive or annoying to achieve) without thinking through the solution (because she doesn’t know how to do it) which has definitely led to some stuff being better designed than it would have without her input.

yeah, it’s a low profile 10mm pipe system that lays in those backing boards over top of existing floors. It’s currently being latexed so I can lay the floor starting Sunday, ahead of the kitchen going in Monday...

I thought it looked incredibly low-profile. Did I see that you have a sprung floor? We're looking at UFH options for when we do our kitchen, but have a sprung floor and I wasn't convinced by the tray system that mounts between joists. That and I've seen a lot mentioned about the thermal mass of a concrete floor helping significantly.

The worktop supplier has delivered the replacement faulty section tonight which means the kitchen area should be finished other than decorating by the weekend which is only 1 week late 8)

I've learnt my lesson as regards paying trades on delivery as i had no leverage with the supplier when we realised the first delivery was incorrect and i've had to wait whilst he did "paying work" , i'm clearly too nice.

I've just listened to my builder and the supplier arguing who is responsible for the template/miscut and they've agreed amongst themselves to share responsibility and bear their own labour costs but the cost of the slab is going on the next job they work on together in January lol.

I started my flooring yesterday (the main job I’m DIY’ing) - oak herringbone. Bloody hard work, but we’ve just about finished the large room, mainly due to having to wait for everyone else to finish and go home before starting it!





Then my kitchen started going in today - there was a wrong coloured end panel that stopped the runs being completed, but they called the factory and the new one is being made today and coming with them tomorrow!

The joys of using a joinery company that I give tens of thousands of pounds of work to each year!
