I’ve found them great - a massive step up in customer service from BMW and Audi main dealers. They take your money, sure, but they’re absolutely straight with you and don’t feel like they’re giving you bad value.

They've been pretty liberal offering me test drives, though where they are located it's a bit of a limited loop up round Bredon and Ashchurch with some speed humps. Hope he finds them accommodating!

Back onto car insurance specifically - I think I've possible I've made the largest saving from any single phone call I've made (partly because of my own disorganisation).

The Range Rover predictably was still showing a relatively sky high renewal cost (somehow I've managed to time it so its 6 days before Christmas ) of £3,260. Other comparison sites were showing c. £2,500 as the most competitive quotes but from relatively unknown providers which always makes me nervous.

After calling up Admiral and realising that I actually have ended up with all three cars with them on separate policies, I managed to reduce the premium by over £1,100 to £2,099. Interestingly part of that is taking my wife off who was adding £700

To add to that I just got a voicemail saying the 911 had on the policy that I had no use of other cars so they're sending me a refund of £65 on that too

Yes I appreciate 2k is a lot of money for car insurance but given the risk and that the average insurance cost in inner London is c £1,500 it weirdly feels like a bit of a bargain.

Smart Brabus #1 arrived last week and I've barely driven it as the kids have been borrowing it. Half the price to insure versus the M2 for me and the wife at circa £300 annualised and only £252 to add my 19yr old son for the next 7 months for a 430bhp 4wd car - happy days.

Then added my 20yr old daughter as she initially shunned it as an old mans car and would rather drive her Supra. Cost to add her for the same period-£6.61

Insurance renewal for most of our cars is tomorrow and I have been having a real run-around with the Cayenne. I thought swapping the S6 for an M5 would increase the premium but that reduced by about £150 (£700 to £550ish - not exact because these are the figures before Admiral starts loading multi-car and loyalty discounts on top). The Cayenne renewal premium was £1450 I think and I've had a number of conversations with them which ended up looking like a random number generator. Anyway, today I've managed to get that down to £1075 and with the multi-car discounts it is not worth switching. On Friday afternoon we were at something like £1750

Anyway, total for insuring the M5 Touring, R5, MX5 and Cayenne is about £2200 (again, not exact because I've rolled the house insurance in as well to get a bigger discount). I think that's relatively good, particularly when the Cayenne is nearly half the total premium on its own.

Why is it so high for it? Are they the new Range Rover car of choice for pro thieves?

It was about £500 last year so for whatever reason it has gone up a fair bit. I think it's a combination of our windscreen replacement (which they say doesn't load the premium but I'm sure it does) and my wife's SP30 plus the fact the headlights are easily stolen. Still nowhere near Range Rover territory.

My daughter's insurance is due for renewal in early May, I got a quotation for £184 for the year and knew it couldn't be right, it was cheap when she had a provisional, but the monthly payment wennt up to £193 when she passed in December.

Had a crack at the site, realised her details had her as still provisional...

Cheapest quote with legal and breakdown is just over a grand. Cheaper than I expected tbh, and that is with two 4 and 5 star providers.

Will see what her 1st year provider offers as they have had her rated among their safest drivers, so will be interesting to see if that actually makes any difference.

Just renewed the M3 today. £496 down from £618. Would have been £472, but I increased the value to £70k. Apparently it's now properly insured as a classic, rather than a cherished car which is why the price went down.

Interestingly, when I renewed the 968 last month, Classic Line told me that now that it's over 30 years old, although the policy is for 3000 miles it's now actually unlimited mileage. They must know that the number of 30+ year old cars doing maybe over 5000 miles a year are pretty slim

Possibly also a change in driver demographics, you don’t run a classic without giving a shit about it, and mileage becomes largely irrelevant to value

Alpine renewed today - thats a year ive had it now. Gone up £20 to £398 but ive added an ECU map since then.
