It's self evidently a medical and economic disaster and emergency and a tragedy for thousands of families across the country. Could it have been lower, i.e. Germany - seemingly yes. Could it be much worse as per Italy and Spain - also seemingly, yes. Are the governments of Italy and Spain much more inept than ours? Or perhaps there are many variables in play and the analysis is not so simple.
