No complaints regarding those tyres from me. I can’t tell you anything specific about them though Lots of traction, there is that.

I've no idea what else was involved. Thankfully no other vehicles. I'm assuming there was some spinning, a curb, a sign and possibly some Armco.

Or, as a female was involved, could it have been a simple parking incident?

Harry, you can’t worry about depreciation on a young person’s car. If they don’t crash it they’ll almost certainly wreck the interior trim etc.

MX5 still responds quite happily to being used after a couple of months sitting still. It's rather nice to feel it warming up and getting smoother over the first few miles.

I have been pondering whether to replace it with something a bit more likely to get everyday use; even idly looking at Merc SLK 250 CDIs on Auto Trader. But I'd miss the completely mechanical interaction. It was possible a facelift ND MX5 (the new 187bhp version) will replace it in a year or two but Evo's test this month has put me off that a bit. Should have bought Ste's dad's supercharged mk3!

I remember an ex girlfriend, when I was a teenager, pouring boiling water over her drivers side window to get off tacky glue residue from a parking enforcement sticker and ending up with a salmon pink door on her red punto

Aye, agreed with that. I know it's a V10 that'd have all the toys on it but I didn't think some of that tech came in until a few years later.

Have you got screenshots of that, or a link ? Trailers are tricky devils when reversing, to know where the trailer's going to go the car must have known the dimensions of the trailer and had a way of measuring the angle between car & trailer. If you simply drive straight backwards the trailer will fairly quickly veer off to one side.

No screenshots and I've obviously sold it. It maybe wasn't as clever as you're imagining. Normally if you selected reverse it drew arcs on the screen that adjusted as you turned the steering wheel from side to side. With a trailer hitched it didn't draw the arcs over the trailer which would have been pointless but instead drew wider arcs further back indicating the direction the car would take, but obviously not being able to guess which way the trailer would turn.

Turns out my miraculously disappearing loud squeal from the front right that appeared after Rockingham has not, in fact, miraculously disappeared, and is back to being as loud as it was before.

I plan to do an oil change one weekend soon when I get a spare hour or two and it's not too cold to put me off, so assuming I can jack the car up in one piece and the oil change doesn't go catastrophically wrong, I might take the wheel off and see if there's anything obvious that's making the racket.

My confidence in my own mechanical abilities knows no bounds. Still, I did manage to change my plates over on Friday night in the dark for my private plate* , so there's some hope. That involved a screwdriver *and* a drill. - go me!

*First time put back on something in 8 years. DVLA online service was seamless - much better than last time when I had to drive to a specific post office with a bunch of forms - maybe GDS are good for something.

Also dropped by Sundayjumper's place briefly yesterday to say hi to him and Harry, who I last met, we worked out, about 13-15 years ago.

Exactly this. Except for when it doesn't work. Last 2 times I've done one I've had a 'computer says no'. You then have to post the DVLA a paper form with exactly the same details as the online form, both V5s and A CHEQUE. That takes 10 days.
