Fvck those guys. They're never happy. It's a TV show. Get over it.

I think you also made the point that it's so difficult these days to read impartial, objective reviews to anything as so many sites seem to have an agenda of one sort or another. Its also funny (and tiresome) when you find a reviewer who says they're not really basing their opinions on anything like an anti-woke agenda, but then their mask slips and you realise they are just like any of the others who can't seem to stand anything which doesn't have a straight white guy in the lead.
People say it's about woke agendas, or right wing agendas, or about expectation control when they forget the core of it.

It's about money. It's always about the money.

Ripley

Binged the whole lot. It’s slow paced with a nonetheless gripping plot and Ripley made me feel acutely uncomfortable, which was undoubtedly intentional. Loved the Italian setting, absolutely beautiful.

Very interesting documentary on the growth of internet disinformation from the birth of 4Chan through Anonymous through QAnon and Storming the Capitol
Thanks for this!

This thread and movie thread are becoming my go-to recommendation source :D

Shogun (Disney+)

Didn't expect it to be so good. Really enjoying it, the vibe is great and keeping the main language Japanese really lifts it.

8/10 genuflecting samurai.

@DeskJockey - Have you read the book of Shogun as well?

No. But, it has been added to my "want to read" list.

I wasn't sure whether to read the book first or give the series a go, I think I'll just get on with the TV show.

I finished watching this last week and absolutely loved it. Beautifully shot and fantastic acting from the Japanese cast - I'm less sure about Cosmo Jarvis. I've actually ordered a book - "Anjin - The Life and TImes of Samurai William Adams" but believe it's on back order at the moment. Tempted to read James Clavell's book as well though now as this is supposed to have been a fairly faithful adaptation of the novel.

I hope there's no second series!

I finished Constellation on Apple TV and loved it. Noomi Rapace is an astronaut on the ISS and something happens which means when she returns to earth, not is all as it seems or as it should be.

Station Eleven

Rubbish

Boring and slow

Don't care about the characters

I'll read the book instead (which is supposed to be very good, and from which the series veers quite a bit by all accounts)

Yeah, don’t send an SF team that are deployed for this sort of thing all the time and would probably not kill every man, woman and child on board.. just slice up an entire ship and then miraculously find the (undamaged) item in the 1000 tons of twisted, burning metal. Oh and then it’s unbreakable encryption will be opened by the aliens, so why encrypt it and keep it secret in the first place ffs!? 😂
Spoiler
I thought they went over the reason why adequately, even with the super surprise wire attack they only just stopped the drive being toasted. The Trisolaris/San Ti flipped strategies from fifth column to psychological terror/ or just arrogance after discovering humans can lie. They change strategies again against the wallfacers
Spoiler
I agree that part was mental. It seemed like a way of just getting her research into the plot. I watched it happen and came up with twelve better ways of doing it within seconds.
(written vaguely because I CBA spoilers)

All in though, really enjoyed Three Body Problem. I have also used it as ammunition to rile physicists I know, which is entertaining. It's strangely reminiscent of Douglas Adams in that it does fun "what if" with Sci Fi without stopping to take itself too seriously.

He's a full, hardcore 40k nerd but not only is that show going to need a metric-shit-ton of money to do well, the 40k fanbase are rabid! They'll want him hung via a lamppost if he gets a single bit or lore spelt incorrectly.
GW have kind of dipped their toe with some of the stuff on their Warhammer TV channel though, which will presumably act as a guide. Some of it is actually quite good e.g. Pariah Nexus (some bits available on youtube).

The Final - Attack on Wembley - on Netflix

Documentary about the Euro's final in 2021 and what happened outside before and during the game. I'm a football fan (Gooner - "It's the hope that kills you" ) so found this very interesting. I of course saw the news reports but I had no idea just how bad it got outside the ground and how early things were kicking off. The response from authorities left a lot to be desired but with the sheer numbers along with the chaos, thoughts of Hillsborough must have been in their minds. I think the only thing that saved the day was that England lost. I guarantee if they'd won, lives would have been lost.

However in all that, I think Crowd dynamics was largely at plan. People got caught up in things and did stuff they didn't set out to do (like storming the stadium). Social media frenzy played a part and there was also an element of Post Lockdown celebration about it all. Still no excuse though

I'm' sure it was pretty scary at times for all concerned.

Finished it last night (while the Mrs watched Eurovision on the telly). It was a stunning series. I'm okay with Cosmo's acting. A bit hammy/OTT at times, but I think he managed to portray the confusion of the character getting to grips with Japanese culture and language well.

Anna Sawai was the standout for me. Such amazing acting.

Zero points for us on the public vote. In our public vote we gave 12 points to Isreal

For those who don’t know this was our entry, with a performance straight from a porn site, so despite being from Eurovision it’s probably nsfw (also not safe for people who can’t handle flashy lights)

I've just finished Fallout and thought it was really good. I've not played the game, but I've seen some playthroughs on YouTube before when Fallout 3 & 4 came out, so knew a bit going into it, but not a diehard fan to know all the lore.

Also just finished Masters Of The Air last night, which I really enjoyed as well. Definitely gave me that Band of Brothers vibe and would recommend if not seen.

Got 3 months free Apple TV when I upgraded my iPhone. I've seen Ted Lasso, but might have to give some other stuff ago on there before my freebie runs out. Especially if it has some other shows that are the same quality as Masters of the Air.

@Brannen - On Apple TV, there's some really good stuff to check out, they do seem to have a pretty good hit rate for quality over quantity.

Slow Horses
Bad Sisters
Ted Lasso
For All Mankind
Silo
Foundation
Manhunt
Severance
Constellation
Black Bird
The Morning Show
Servant
Mythic Quest
Dick Turpin
