In fairness the yanks, while still better, are fast approaching them, just their human right violations are wrapped in freedom coloured paper

They’re in a right pickle with this one. Despite a judge telling them to get him back, and in a slight surprise SCOTUS agreeing unanimously that the government was wrong sending him in the first place, DOJ is shrugging and saying “nah, make me”. Their lawyer stood in front of the judge on Friday and wouldn’t say where he currently is, nor what they’re doing to get him back.
So it seems either he’s already dead and they don’t want that in the news, or he’s alive and they don’t want him coming back and his first hand account of his treatment being in the news. Followed by him suing the government for a very, very, very large amount of money.
This is a test case. If they get away with it now it’s a green light to keep doing it.

I mean, if the supreme court (and local judge) tells the DOJ they're in contempt, who the fuck enforces that? They gonna send a Bounty Hunter after them? Walker, Texas Ranger?
SCOTUS should have thought of this when effectively making Trump a king, untouchable by law.

Yeah - just when I was thinking of picking up a console for the lounge to play with my son. Sony can suck my cock if they think I'll consider them now. What a bunch of shysters. USAs tariffs, USA's problem.

The worst bit is the price is not increasing in America - Sony essentially sticking 2 fingers up at the rest of the world and screwing us to subsidise the USA.

No, in fact they'll probably use the rest-of-world price rises to actually subsidise a pre-tax price lowering for the US, so the street price doesn't go up as much with the tarrifs. Shitty behaviour.
When else has there been price rises for a 5 year old console with 6 year old tech inside? Crazy.

It’s worse than that. The price rise only applies to the digital only console- which is the more budget friendly console. Where your games have to come from Sony
Have you ever compared downloading a game from them vs buying a disk from Argos/amazon etc.? It’s always more expensive to get it direct download from Sony, yet when you get a disk you also benefit from second hand resale/trade in value

Todays jaw-dropping grift / scam / monumental conflict of interest: setting up his own investment fund. Insider trading is the not-subtle USP.
On Tuesday, Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG), best known as the parent company of the social media platform Truth Social, announced it was launching a series of actively managed investment accounts. TMTG is marketing these "Truth Social-branded Separately Managed Accounts" as a way to invest in companies that benefit from Trump's political agenda. Trump remains the majority shareholder of TMTG.

You have to look on obscure websites to find anyone who can even be bothered to write about this, whereas we have a month of blanket cover headlines over our PM being given a pair of glasses.
and the odd thing is, it’s EXACTLY the same people claiming to be outraged by the glasses are the ones supporting Trump.
The world is fucked up.

I'm sure I saw something (maybe in this thread) that was saying that once you get to 100% tariffs (say) anything beyond that is virtually meaningless as you've effectively killed those imports
So you're just adding an ever higher tariff to something that no one's going to ship/import anyway

Yep, it’s mentioned in that article too:
Beijing upped its own tariffs on US imports to 125 percent – a self-imposed ceiling as Chinese officials said levies any higher would have "no practical economic significance" and essentially function as embargoes.
I still can’t get to grips with the fact I’m rooting for China in all this, but here we are.

Yep, which is why the Chinese haven't increased theirs beyond 120%.

Depends how much cheaper their product was compared to the domestic product was in the first place.
If their £100 product cost £500 to make locally, then even with a 200% tariff, it’s still cheaper to import.

It’ll be in response to all the Chinese manufacturers publishing who they make stuff for- the Chinese government has removed their obligation to obey nda’s, so have apparently been posting on TikTok how to buy direct from them- want that $5000 handbag by brand xyz- well we make it so go to our website and you can it for $200

I guess a 250% tariff on a Chinese birkin handbag will still make it 90% cheaper than a real Hermes.
I’m not believing for a second that they’re anywhere close to the same quality either but yeah, designer brands will have massive profit margins. If someone is surprised by that then they’re just incredibly stupid.
