Agree they're good value... HOWEVER... the PTUs for the 4WD all fail eventually and are a 20k bill. Ferrari PowerPlus warranty is £5k p.a. There's talk that some specialist will now recondition but you're still looking at a high 4 or 5 figure bill.

They can get out a very muddy field at Goodwood Revival as was proved yesterday though so 4WD is perhaps worth it

I consider the FF a relatively sensible car, my wife thinks I have serious issues.

I mean, at a time when family hatchbacks can throw out £2-3k bills fairly easily, I don't think £9600 for a £250k Ferrari is unreasonable.

Yes that's true but the proper Ferrari authorised fix is a replacement at £20k on a car that is worth £100k, so 1/5th of the value of the car for something that is essentially inevitable...

More importantly, it is half the £40k difference in value between an FF and an F12 (assuming you haven't run the car until it has actually broken and incurred many more $$$$ in the process). The F12 will hold its value better in the long (long) term and does not have that problem. So essentially, if I was looking at an FF that hasn't had that done as a cheaper alternative to an F12, I would think again.

There’s always that spot with Ferraris where the maintenance costs don’t make financial sense.

Engine out services on the Testarossa etc.

I guess it’s that old truism of before you buy that “bargain” supercar, ask yourself can you afford to run a supercar

Given itcosts about 3x my BMW to buy, and even more to run, I’m not sure it would feel like a huge upgrade. Evo said the V8 is the one to go for, but I think I’d end up regretting not having the W12.

Not seen that colour before, very nice .. I’m a sucker for a dark green car. Saw a lot of BML number plated vehicles (Bentley’s own) at a quiet pub near Goodwood last year.. they look lovely so I sat in one at SP, where the chap tried to explain the benefits of the V8 over the W12; I too came away wanting the W..

That is lovely. A 4.0 V8 is ungentlemanly in that type of car though. It needs 12 cylinders.

Finding myself without a large estate / tow barge I have itchy fingers, and today I am browsing E70 X5s. Spotted this with a mega-spec: ventilated comfort seats, HUD, adaptive headlights, soft close doors. And a V8. All of my fave features. All for £6k.

Downside is it's a petrol V8 so it has less torque and worse fuel consumption compared to the best diesels. And I wanted to avoid having another £700+ VED car. But it's very, very tempting.

It probably would but it’s only rated to 2000kg. I think my trailer is about 600kg but I’ve never actually checked. Trailer + Compact would be close to 2000kg. Anything much bigger would be overloaded. Most (all?) large SUVs are 3500kg towing capacity which is plenty.

I always loved the shape of that second-gen X5. I believe they threw up more niggly and inherent faults than the E53 though - a bit like the E60 generation 5-series.

However, I don't think I'd have one over your departed Cayenne S. It just does the same thing, surely, except with a fan for your arse?

Conversely, I'd consciously avoided them as they kept the very basic orange dot matrix dash for far too long, meaning it looked like a 1-Series when it really should have aligned with the 5 & 7. For £6k or less I can forgive it. Especially with comfy arse fan seats.
