Cars weighed shit all though. The Clio was <1t - 980kg IIRC. I can't imagine the R19 weighed much more. This, and outside of your sales rep spec Ford or Vauxhall cars tended to be low geared, with max speed close to the rev limiter in top, so they felt more responsive.
