On the subject of squeaky windows, I’ve got a bit of one from my drivers side window, think it’s just a dry seal. What’s the stuff you guys have used to soften them up? Think I remember mik mentioning something?

Yup, that's the stuff. I've had some for a while but not got around to applying it yet, probably will once i get the window fixed. Apparently good for all rubbery seals to keep 'em supple and, er, sealing.

I’ve also just used a (clear) silicone shoe shine pad for quick and easy issues (gummi lasts longer and conditions, but this provides immediate lube)

Gummipflege is the fucking best. Slather it on a couple of times a year and you'll be squeakless all year.

Note, it's not a requirement to ask for GUMMIPFLEGE at the top of your voice.

MX5 had its second service today. The Stourbridge Mazda dealer is really up there with more upmarket brands and really nice to deal with, which is great. Had a CX30 courtesy car again and again I was taken by just how straightforwardly good it seems to be at everything, including being quite fun to drive. Probably quite off the radar compared to Kia and Hyundai which are everywhere now, so worth a try if you're in the market for good value normal motoring.

The MX5 had a clean bill of health (the service reception said it was basically new so that was expected, but it is 2 years old now). Should probably still GUMMIPFLEGE the seals since I doubt they do that as a matter of course.

I ordered some “LIQUID MOLY GUMMI PFLEGE” from Amazon. Order received and they sent me “LIQUID MOLY rubber care”

The M5 seems to have stopped drinking oil. Unlike the Ferrari that is positively pissing it out now to the extent I can see a trail down the road near here where the accumulation on the undertray spills out when braking then turning right.


I drove past there three times last week. There’s three clear trails.

The M5 seems solid now. No leaking and I’m using it regularly for the very important stuff.


I chose not to though. After SPANKING IT on THE TWISTIES on the way home to prove I’M A DRIVING GOD, I marinated my prawns. Not a euphemism.

Kuga is leaving me in the next couple of weeks to be replaced by a 330e Touring.

Been a lovely car, I'd spend my own money on a 3 year old one as a family car I needed one, it's been 100% reliable, needed 2 tyres in 36000 miles and that's it other than servicing.

Managed Heathrow to Leeds on Friday in 3 Hours and 11 minutes and still did 59mpg even though the drive battery was flat.

Only complaint is the suspension is a bit too hard, I don't think people really need a biggish family car to handle as well as it does, id happily sacrifice it for ride comfort.

Sound system is well above average for its price point IMO, seats are comfy, big boot, clever folding and sliding rear seats to make the most of the room, quick enough once up and running to overtake quickly when needed, but a bit slow off the line.

Interested to see how the 330e compares to both the Kuga and my GTE, on paper it's supposedly a bit quicker than the Golf, but I think that maybe mainly a traction advantage off the line.

Bigger (longer) boot will be welcome, but I think the interior will be more cramped. Also looks to have less toys as it's a Sport, not a M Sport, I think the Sport suits the roads round here better on 17's and with hopefully slightly more forgiving suspension.

Dog fit check complete, more than enough room for the four and also some bits and pieces.

I meant to take a photo of my bike in the boot - it was easier to load than the S6, not sure why. Maybe there's more height?

I do wonder why the black bits rounds the exhausts stick out so far though. I'm sure they could be flush with the bumper.

I think I'm more jealous of having 4 labs than the car

Is the rear bumper part "sporty" extruded diffuser, part US regs? They usually have protruding bumpers.

I want to believe it's for aero reasons alone.

What's the carpet hair situation like ?

Our ML is bloody awful for holding onto dog hair so a boot liner is essential.

The TT used to be fine, it just hoovered up.

I've got a boot liner at the back bit and a third party one I just lay on the back of the seats. Means I can just get rid of any residual hair with a nitrile glove, although I wish there was some sort of factory fit boot liner to cover the whole back area.

There's decent room in there on the move for them all to lie down and windows open full with the sun protectors in place.
