Not mine, but I’m up at my parents for a few days and took my mum’s car for a drive.
She’s not driven for about 8 years, and my Dad probably does about 150 miles a year in it, so at 14 years old it has only done 6,200 miles from new.
I forget what a good car it is - people dismiss SLKs unless they’re AMGs.
It’s only a 200 auto, but shifts along nicely and the gearbox does a decent job of automatically shifting down when braking in sport mode.
The steering is nice (feels hydraulic, rather than electric - should check) handling is great on fairly skinny 17” alloys with a decent sidewall - I ‘expect’ you could travel well over the national speed limit on the local B roads and it soaks everything up while being composed.
It can easily be provoked into nice little slides on second gear corners also.
I doubt the sport suspension / big wheel derivatives drive anywhere near as well.
I drive it so infrequently it surprises me every time!

Strangely, a girl i work with just bought a 2014 SLK 250d also with only 6k miles on it. it is absolutely pristine!

Major service on the M5 today. Not going to use that garage again though. Really cunty.

Many years ago I took my then wife's A class for a service and got an SLK courtesy car for the day. Again, a 200 auto, but nippy enough and good fun as you say. I don't know why they weren't more popular TBH. Air-scalf was great on the motorway with the roof down too.

I’m using my Elise daily this week - flushing out any gremlins from being unused over winter. So far no issues other than i can’t get the rev counter reset. it used to sort itself out after a couple of drives but the needle is sat beyond the numbers…

Cycling the ignition can often cure that, the needle resets a little closer to zero each time.

My mother had a same gen red SLK200/(230?) and when it was sold the chap asked if we’d had the respray done? Apparently some red SLKs of a certain age were entitled to a full respray as there was a paint process defect

Owned it about a year now? Still enjoying it? Always interested to see how people find using the Elise on modern roads - considering how busy/overly-managed/slow motoring can be these days.

I’ve noticed it’s been harder to find good car parts recently. Usually searching a part number will result in loads of US based choices but not much here. Earlier I was ordering stuff off RockAuto (American seller) and a lot of the stuff in my basket came up with an error that it could not be shipped to the EU/UK because it didn’t come with a certificate that the iron/steel used is of non Russian origin. I didn’t realise this was a thing post Ukraine, but it does seem to explain the lack of choice.
Anyway a lot of the Russian origin steel parts can still be bought from EU suppliers, so no doubt they’re just rerouting it all via one of the ‘istan’ countries but postage is prohibitively expensive.

Yep, over a year now - it’s obviously terrible for winter use as the tyres stop working in the cold and it’s basically dangerous! But now the suns out it’s lots of fun and it’s coping well - even stop start traffic isn’t too bad (though the traffic has been relatively light so far). Pot holes aren’t great though, but at least it’s tiny enough that you can steer around most of them without leaving your lane.
i’m glad i got an Elise rather than an Exige too, taking the roof off changes everything and makes it way more of an event to drive - i’ve had the roof off every day this week and i’m getting pretty quick at taking it on and off!
