Not a spectator sport as such, we're simply offering to be withstanders supporting you in your car related challenges.

Bring a BBQ and some beers and we might have a deal.

Beany will do pole dancing.

North Pole, South Pole, either's good, just as long as it's nowhere near me :D

I’m only joking. Just keep it tasteful, yeah ?

Especially out front where the neighbours can see.

I keep the grass out front very neat.

(this is a euphemism)

And yet you gleefully deprived us all of an opportunity to inform you "well I wouldn't have done it like that" as you shear off apparently critical structures with gay abandon. Where is your showmanship and sense of fair play?

Are you talking about SJ's spannering or Beany's pole dancing?

So, it turns out that the occasional squealing I was convinced was coming from one of the front wheels was most likely a sticking rear caliper.

Ever after a drive where it had been making the noise I couldn’t feel any wheel noticably warmer than the other. I also don’t remember ever smelling the telltale hot smelly brake smell. It had also been making the noise on and off before it’s not last August, yet they didn’t feel any brake dragging or any problems with the handbrake.

However, removing the caliper this morning, it’s clear how utterly cooked the brakes are. Both pads needed a lot of levering out, the friction material on the inside pad was loose from the backing plate.

Looks like I need to order disks and pads too 😄

Mine needs a new front bearing but the whole hub needs taking off and everything is so corroded that it’s going to be like opening a can of worms. A job for summer. Next year.

On the M5 above I remember when I overheated my 6 series all of the plastic pipes turned super brittle. Cracked the coolant tank too so I spent a few hours replacing almost everything.

X5 was doing the gangster lean, but 5 minutes underneath to swap out the sensor and it’s all on the straight and level again

Tesla wheel is repairable but won’t be ready till Monday so will be next weekend when I can collect that.

My favourite parts supplier has their regular month-end promo as usual, 15% this month:

My spannering. Beany's approach to the pole is aggressively butch.

Bosch Brake parts are highly regarded in Australia and have been good prices recently.

Heater on the 928 is fixed. All it took was re-working the vacuum lines for the HVAC along with the flappy intake valve that opens at 4k rpm. It's also highlighted that the vacuum actuator for the comb flap is fucked. I'll need to take out the centre console to get access to it, but fortunately, replacement bladders are only about £15. I'll replace the footwell actuator while I'm in there but it's a job for autumn/winter.

Last year, I bought a second hand Bose spare wheel sub from a Nissan Murano which fits perfectly into the spare wheel well of the 928. It's passive and therefore needs an amp which arrived Saturday. I'm going to site it somewhere in the rear cargo area. Luckily, the battery box is under the spare wheel well and I don't have to arse about running long power runs. The longest cable run will be the amp run on and sub signal cable from the head unit. Going to do a test wire up first before fitting it properly. Need to source a 150mm M10 bolt from somewhere to secure the sub to the spare wheel bracket.

New front suspension getting fitted at the end of this month ready for the upcoming season of meets, runs and trips.

They're pretty cheap on eBay. Just search for Nissan Murano Bose Subwoofer (My model number is Bose 28170 CA10A). There are some that have an amp built in - the letters and numbers at the end are different.

Wheel well subs are fairly common now, especially on the VAG side. The Up has a "Beats Audio" upgrade which includes it....problem is, you can now longer fit a spare wheel, and on our British roads, I know which I'd rather have....

Subs which fit inside the actual spare wheel have been fairly common for a couple of decades at least. They appeared before cars started losing their spare wheels.

The Bose sub will fit nicely inside the space saver spare wheel that was in the 928, but given the tyre is 39 years old. I'm not sure I'd trust it to even hold air, let alone drive the car on it!

If only there was a method to replace tyres, maybe get new ones....oh well, a man can dream though. A man can dream... ;)

At least you can have a roadside party while waiting for recovery! 8-)
