Interesting how the barrier performed in that crash. He's a lucky boy!

Monocoque separated from the back half which is surprising given it went in pretty straight - halo may have saved him from getting a head full of barrier.

I think that's a safe assumption.
Impressive response from the marshalls and officials.

Did he not look in his mirrors first? Appears he just cut up Kvyat
Very lucky to be walking

Suspected broken ribs and burns to wrists and ankles, expect that’ll be his season over, but if that’s all he has he’s got off extremely lightly
No doubt in my mind the halo saved his life

Indeed it was. First class. More than can be said for the first fireman on the scene.

I noticed that, he was hopeless... thank fuck he wasn't the only one there!
Just incredible that he got out of that with relatively minor injuries. He was in the fireball a good while as well, but when you see what he had to get himself out of it's not surprising. I know the halo saved his life, be even with the halo he was incredibly lucky to be able to find his way out.

For those that didn’t see it (ie me) - vid here. Will probably be taken down soon as it is sky footage.

Yup, he’s radio gold is lando
They’ve just raised something on sky which I hadn’t thought of- the medical guys running towards the fire have flameproof balaclavas on, but open face helmets. Solid stuff from them

Christ. That was just horrific. Instant knot in the pit of my stomach when I saw the flames and started thinking this had the potential to be another Lauda at the Nurburgring.
At first I was thinking it probably looked worse than it was... then I saw the replay and realised it was actually much worse than it looked. As Martin said, it was a miracle he walked away from that.
I mean, how did it not knock him unconscious for a start? That he managed to clamber through a ball of flames and over the barrier is just unbelievable.
I’d pretty much got over the whole halo debate anyway but happy to admit I was wrong on that. That carbon loop certainly saved Romain today.
