Re: Today’s want
Or from a Range Rover Sport. It’s at least slightly more generic looking, not blatantly BMW.

Re: Today’s want
That's perfect - Morgan could probably get a wooden cover to replace the leather so it looks a bit more tailored to the car.

Re: Today’s want
Surely no one at Morgan can be happy with it either.
Wonder if it’s some weird condition if being allowed to use bmw power plants that it has to stay?

Re: Today’s want
I really like some of that Morgan - wheels and doors for example
.
Removal of the windscreen however is IMHO turtley stoopid.
It really needs a gear knob like this one.

Re: Today’s want
I'd assume that if you buy the engine and gearbox from BMW it's a sealed unit for warranty. It would explain why Ineos keep the BMW shifter too.
I like most of that morgan, everything but the wheels and the already discussed interior mistakes.

An absolute unit

Still don't understand why manufacturers continue with "Gear Stick" in automatics.
Merc's stalk is way better and leaves a much cleaner centre console

Re: Today’s want
That's one of the things I could not get used to in the EQA we had recently. I'd be fine if it was a separate stalk on the RHS, but making it the only stalk on the RHS and forcing everything else onto the left-hand stalk really didn't work for me.dinny_g wrote: Fri May 17, 2024 9:23 am Still don't understand why manufacturers continue with "Gear Stick" in automatics.

Re: Today’s want
It's a Merc "thing" innit, putting everything on one stalk. I hate it too. The Vito was the same and didn't even have the excuse of needing the other side for the shifter.

Re: Today’s want
its not even generic, it's really fucking distinctively BMW!Jobbo wrote: Fri May 17, 2024 7:48 am
The gear selector is far too generic. Surely that part can be altered?
Re: Today’s want
It’s on purpose to put the customers mind at rest before they throw £200k down. “How’s the reliability on these”
“Sir, these are just a BMW with a wooden chassis. The same engineering throughout” *points at gear selector*

How about not having a sig at all?
Re: Today’s want
It's second nature to me now so i don't even think about it (bit I've had a lot of Mercs)mik wrote: Fri May 17, 2024 9:44 amThat's one of the things I could not get used to in the EQA we had recently. Point stands though - Just move it away from a "Gear stick" to a better, Mike approved, Stalk...
Re: Today’s want
The V300 and the EQV have the column and it does really suit the car and its style of driving.Sundayjumper wrote: Fri May 17, 2024 9:50 am It's a Merc "thing" innit, putting everything on one stalk. Re: Today’s want
I presume they want some sort of lever for ‘manual’ shifts. Sticking it on the column would mean always auto unless you add flappy paddles and clutter.
I hate the bmw shifter though, it looks rubbish in normal cars. Why they have to make it look like something from a 90s arcade flying game I don’t know.
Both our old early 2000s autos have shifters which don’t look too different from a normal manual one and seem to work fine

Indicators, main beams and wipers on one stalk, cruise control on another stalk, steering wheel adjustment on another stalk, all on one side!!

I mean, that AC panel is basically identical to an F-series BMW too. blindfold someone and put them from a 1-series to a Supra and they could operate the AC by touch and memory.MikeHunt wrote: Fri May 17, 2024 11:42 am The gearstick is really lazy on the Morgan, looks awful and totally out of sync with the rest of the interior.
Toyota didn't a much better job, as did Land Rover mentioned above.

Toyota did a great job there ! It matches very well with all the other BMW switchgear in the pic. Handbrake, iDrive, AC.MikeHunt wrote: Fri May 17, 2024 11:42 am Toyota didn't a much better job, as did Land Rover mentioned above.

It's been a long time since I drove an Fxx and don't remember them looking like this.
Based on the new GRY, Toyota aren't big on interiors.

same as my F31 and F87. To be fair, it's a good layout.
