Child seats are a minefield.

Ours were forward facing at about 15 months, Connor was car sick a lot and Maxwell was just a bundle of nervous fidgeting. Forward facing stopped the vomiting and calmed down Maxwell. It’s hard to find a forward facing seat with harnesses which isn’t the size of a planet, his feet were always right on my seat and I’m only 5 foot 11 and he is quite small for his age.

In the end we found a nice forward facing seat and an extra belt which turns it into harnesses using your existing belt which (despite me not liking the idea) works really well. Now “Daddy go zoom” doesn’t result in them moving around at all.

I've clearly been DIW. Apart from the one which carried the eldest home from the maternity ward, I've just left it to the mrs who has procured random seats in used condition from the nearest amenable fellow breeders.

Yes. I did briefly own a Vauxhall Zafira Gsi TURBO which I deemed necessary based on the fact that I had to fit two very small humans in a car.

What's your point though Rich? Or are you just demonstrating the fact that you remember the bad things what I've done even longer than my wife does?.

I think already owning two cars with adequate interior space to fit people and things inside is essentially Doing It Right.

Couldn't find my 18mm spanner, a new one was £7.99 in Halfords. Evonomics kicked in when I saw this 25 piece set ( which includes several sizes I don't already have ) for £50, meaning my new 18mm spanner only cost £2.00 ( kind of )



Then stripped the back end of the car. Random pile of bits



New bushes shoved in, wiring connector brackets cleaned and refitted, then boshed the beam back on the car.


Started attacking a couple of brackets and the arms with a wire wheel of death, then it got dark and I swore at myself for being so lazy and not getting started earlier.

Mr Jumper, if you are reading, I think you could probably get the rear beam out with the diff whilst leaving the arms still attached to the car, without having to touch the brake hoses, with a bit of wiggling and levering, if you weren't going to do the arm bushes. They rarely wear anyway, I'm only changing them for some camber adjustment as I'm killing the inside of my tyres. The bushes still look in excellent shape.

The arm bolts are a bit of a pain as there's not a lot of room or angle to get spanners on them (19mm). I had one driveshaft bolt that was a bit stubborn, and the little 13mm bolts on the subframe lower mount brackets are a pain as you can't get a straight shot at them with a decent socket. A decent soak of wd40 each day for a couple of days before tackling would be handy.

Got a nice big momentum slide kicked off and held on the throttle on the sliproad out of Asda tonight, apparently cold greasy roads, tyres that are not gifted with regards to tread and the ESP turned off is a recipe for going hilariously sideways. Who knew?
