There has been a pretty significant jump in battery tech but price is the limiting factor for road cars. I’m sure a battery pack which costs a few hundred grand currently is no issue for a racing car though. I believe these expensive lithium batteries offer twice the energy for the same weight.

Also some quick simple maths to get some numbers. Current fuel density is 9.7 kWh per litre of petrol. Let’s round up to 10kwh as F1 fuel is fancy stuff. 105kg fuel limit * 10 = 1050kwh but an F1 engine is only 50% efficient isn’t it so a 525kwh battery bolted into an F1 car would be sufficient if it were the same weight as the current hybrid unit which it isn’t. But introduce recharging halfway through the race and a 262.5 kWh would be entirely sufficient.
Which suddenly looks plausible. Tbh you may need less anyway due to the regen, more efficient gearbox but depends how much it would weigh.

I couldn't give AF about ultimate laptimes anyway. Unlimited specials like the 919 Evo have made a mockery of them anyway.

Equivalent of 2nd in qualifying with double the weight "whooped" indeed.

Point stands, F1 is regulated to the point where ultimate laptimes are meaningless and I'd rather see better racing than better laptimes.

Yes whooped. When something which is extremely regulated outperforms something with all the rules removed then that’s a pretty thorough spanking. Just remove fuel flow and electrical limits off an F1 car and it would be another dimension.

Ham impressive again, I think he surprised Bottas a bit as he suddenly started reeling him in to close to a second and that pressure seems to a forced the mistake. Would have been interesting to see if he could have passed him without the mistake though.

I think i missed something - how did DR get ahead of Perez in the last safety car period? It was Perez, DR, Sainz one minute as expected after the stops and next thing before the SC went in DR was ahead?

Perez stopped on the 2nd SC lap, once they realised he'd be a sitting duck on older tyres. Everyone else had stopped so he had a big gap behind DR to drop into, still under the SC.
