I’m sure the value is massively inflated by the cult of Elon and his constant web of lies, bullshit and false promises that even though it’s him killing the company for many people, what happens to it without him?

Re: Trump
to me, there’s 3 things Tesla has/had which elevated them above the rest.
They were first and what they made was good enough and fun.
They have the charging network.
They were cool and made EVs desirable - Elon was a big part of this.
Now, all the normal makers have caught up with the tech, the Chinese are undercutting the price, EVs are depreciating like a rock and the charging network is no longer exclusive.
But more relevant is no one wants to be seen to be supporting Musk, which is more relevant than all the points above. it’s almost like buying a tesla now means you support Trump & Russia and are against Ukraine.
I don’t really see how they can come back from it.

Re: Trump
Was watching some of Rich Rebuilds latest video last night. It’s no wonder the EU and US are bricking themselves over Chinese cars and adding so many tariffs. If they’re actually good cars long term then every established manufacturer is screwed. I reckon it’s way going to be way bigger than when Japanese brands and then South Korean got a foothold.
How about not having a sig at all?
Re: Trump
Apparently according to Trump, people not buying Teslas is "illegally and collusively" boycotting them, and Trump is going to buy a new one first thing today.
Which is on brand for virtue signalling, seeing as Presidents literally aren't allowed to drive.
In the trump thread because the closest Musk gets to this is going "Thanks daddy Trump" in a quote tweet.
Truly one of the statements of all time from Trump, where he used some of those words he heard in the big boys comics.
Also, I don't think he's being punished for his 'tremendous skills', unless his tremendous skill is fatally misjudging how much of a tragic edgelord he can be and still get away with it.

And the people who DO support Trump/Musk wouldn't buy a TeslaRich B wrote: Tue Mar 11, 2025 6:53 am to me, there’s 3 things Tesla has/had which elevated them above the rest.

Re: Trump
I also think another issue for Tesla/EVs in general is that there just doesn't seem to be a huge amount of innovation/differentiation?
If you look at ICE (broadly) you have petrol, diesel, different cylinder count, different drive configs (placement of engine, gearbox, FWD/RWD/4x4*), different gearbox options
ICE cars sound, and feel very different across the spectrum, and there's been constant, and appreciable innovation
I'm not sure EVs can do this and basically keep coming up with reasons for you to buy a new one every couple of years
I've only been in a few EVs, and they all basically feel the same - even an EV black cab felt basically the same in the way it pulled away, accelerated, sounded etc
* yes, I know that you have this to some degree with EVs

Re: Trump
Tesla could have made major updates to the mainline model range to keep them competitive with the competition.....
....but Musk had them make the Cybertruck instead, a machine for divorced dads who spend a bit too long looking at their daughters young teenage friends. And are racist.

I reads to me like Elon has had a whinge to uncle Donnie, even down to describing it as "my baby".Rich B wrote: Tue Mar 11, 2025 9:26 am i love that it’s actually been noticed by Trump - that means it’s hurting!

Re: Trump
Now raising tariffs on Canadian steel & aluminium to 50%.
Re: Trump
It's started. "US President Donald Trump says he will double tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminium from 25% to 50%" in retaliation to 25% tariffs Ontario placed on electricity exports (in response to Trump's initial blinkered shit).Beany wrote: Tue Mar 11, 2025 2:44 pm LOL, apparently Trump says that Ontario is "not allowed" to put large tariffs on exports.

Re: Trump
Worst case scenario Trump will bail Tesla, subsidise it. Already has all the excuses with "American workers" as he keeps emphasising.
Reminds me of Obama and the Ford, GM, Chrysler, Dodge bailout. Come to think of it I think Bush bailed them out too.
