You ordered your cowboy boots and hat yet? Wouldn't even need to take your hat off with the TT :D

It’s a 1986 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 IROC-Z. 190hp of tyre shredding fun. I’ll be collecting it once the lockdown is over.
I had a toy car Z28 IROC when I was a kid, so I have always had a soft spot for these.

I had the black corvette from Mask, my best mate Steve has the red Camaro (and the volcano/petrol station/hideout #jealousface)

Is it wrong that I'm more excited about this than the Porsche? Can't wait to follow the progress.

Think I might have had one of these. It's given me an idea for lockdown - lay out my diecast collection and get a photo.

My favourite was my black 78 Firebird Trans Am.

Always loved that build.

Excellent buy Rev, I’m pretty jealous, love a third gen.

If it were mines I’d be tempted to source a corvette spec L98 or LT1 and go from there.

The L98 is basically the same motor as my LB9 but 5.7 instead of 5.0 and suffers the same issue with the TPI intake choking it at high revs.

The main advantage of the LT1 was supposedly better flowing heads, but they flow about the same as the LB9 heads.

I found an old magazine test of different intakes to replace the standard TPI intake. They used a well built 383 with CNC heads and aggressive cam. With the TPI intake it made 400bhp and the best aftermarket intake made 550bhp with no other changes beyond fuel/timing tweaks. Now that sounds great, except all the aftermarket intakes made less power than the standard intake below 4000rpm, in some cases up to 80bhp less between 2000-4000rpm. That’s a hell of a trade off for a street car. Probably worth it for a track car, though.

Yeah, there’s always going to be trade offs when starting with that era of engines.

I figure the vette 5.7 is a useful amount more powerful than the 5.0 though and should be a fairly easy swap.

Obviously the correct choice is an LS7 and about £10k of suspension stuff 😉

Surely the daft (and therefore correct) choice is one of the LS V12 thingies that we talked about last year. I know Rev wasn't (and very likely still isn't) a fan of them, but that surely just makes it even more right for him!

Except the Walkinshaw racing XJS V12 which sounds amazeballs, but is unusual in doing so.

Bear in mind folks that Dave wants this

US spec 928s were well down on power. The equivalent European version of the S had 295BHP rather than a paltry 234BHP. My S4 is 316BHP (well it was when it left the factory - maybe a couple have escaped over the years).

 at them complaining the dog-leg box is a handicap and  @ the "High Output 5.0 V8" Chevy 190BHP!

Yeah, 80s emissions was a shit show in the US. I also laughed at the so-called racing drivers complaining about the race gearbox 😂 I’m not saying the Yanks were biased, but I read somewhere that Motorweek declared the Camaro the best handling car in the world when it came out

Another interesting (to me) comparison is that in 1986 the top-of-the-range Camaro Z28 IROC-Z cost less than a Peugeot 205 GTi 1.9 but had almost identical straight line performance.

We should definitely have a post-lockdown comparison. My supercar vs your redneckmobile! ;)
