Polestar2. A Tesla M3 rival, and supposedly an "EVO" type family car. Lots of oomph but its a chunky monkey. I quite like it.

Was watching that earlier, will be interesting to see how the basic one get priced.

Been good to get out more in our egolf recently. Tried it out with a bike on the roof (about 15% range hit) and a longer motorway trip with family that almost certainly needed a charge somewhere. A 10 min top up at the services (daughter needed the toilet) turned out to be plenty for the rest of the trip on better summer range.

Have a 320 mile weekend coming up which will be a decent test of public charging.

Yep but it doesn’t make a difference as you need to make 8 stops in a normal car to just stretch the legs and grab something to eat. Don’t want DVT and malnutrition!

Need to stop even more if you've got a pregnant wife in the car . I often do 350 miles one-way trips and only stop if I need to pee if I'm on my own.

Sorry to disappoint but should be an overnight slow charge at the hotel (or carpark next door) then just a brief top up somewhere on each leg.

Ascender > zapmap, plugshare, or abetterrouteplanner.com lets you put in your (planned) car and stops and it figures out where you ought to charge. Tends to be a little conservative with the default settings.

I was looking at the cost of leasing one last week - it's available to configure on Polestar's website (not Volvo's as I first thought ). The fact that all the driving impressions have been on the Ohlins dampers (£5k option) makes me think you probably need them.

The coverage is looking pretty good in terms of reach, particularly in the more remote parts of Scotland and on the main roads north.

My sister-in-law's brother is picking up his new Taycan Turbo S tomorrow. Must be a pre-built car as we've only just heard about it. He also doesn't normally have the patience to sit out a typical factory order lead time.

I need to find an excuse to tag along the next time there's a get together on that side of the family.

(Although it completely baffles me that they have called it TurboS. WTabsoluteF - marketing gone beyond stoopid.)

Seen a few Taycans about now, really like them.

"Turbo" is just a performance level for Porsche these days.

Same here, have seen a few in recent weeks and I think they look great... although bloody massive.

The most spotted-Porsche these days for me seems to be their SUVs.

Well he's got it. Looks nice in the dark grey, but has gloss black wheels and yellow calipers. I'm not sure about the wheels TBH.

I followed a new 911 Convertible, it had a ducktail back end with a spoiler on top but didn’t look modified. Looked nice but it was huge.

The Taycan is a lovely looking thing and seems to do really well in real world mileage.

I've started to really notice a lot more EVs lately, other than the usual suspects (Tesla). A few e-Trons in particular most recently.

I’m still unsure about how this will all end up. Someone I worked on a project with is doing a job in Scotland and they live in Derby. They are getting a Model 3 and have already factored in the extra project cost of charging for each site visit.

I think aslong as it doesn’t create the need for road pricing then It’ll not be so bad a change but if road pricing comes in then that’s a huge hit on personal freedom. Will be an interesting 10 years ahead.
