Suspension back together. The really obvious clunk has completely gone and the front seems generally a bit tighter. So that was nice.

There’s still some loose-bush kinda noises but clearly from the back now. Before it was all over but biased front. Makes sense. That can be next on the list.

If I’m still fussing after that it’s wishbone bushes and ball joints and it starts getting real spendy. 16 bushes @ £100 each & 8 ball joints at £150 each. For the budget aftermarket versions. And maybe four track rod ends at just over £200 each. So…. rapidly approaching £4k just on parts. Yeah. No. That can wait

Well, at least one of my clunks I'm 99% sure is the flappy undertray - I did a bit of experimentation with some speed bumps today, and there's definitely a quiet second 'clatter' if you put enough force through the front of the car.

Which having seen the way it's flapping about last week when the car was up on ramps, really does sound like it could be heavy plastic clattering against plastic.

So that's nice. Just need some fasteners! Pretty sure they won't cost me £4k

Bloody N rated tyres…

So as reported I have an egg in the sidewall of my NSR - yes the one that cost £360 to replace just over ten months ago.

My thinking now is that I want to get rid of the crap P Zeros full stop and swap out all four. I never had a spontaneous puncture or sidewall issue in a set of Michelins and the PS4S are much better than the Pirelli’s in cold and wet conditions (ie the UK).

So exploring what’s available - the PS4S is now N rated in 20 inch wheel size hurrah! Except… they’ve mucked about with the system and you have NA NB NC or NF depending on if you’ve got a 911, mid engined car, Cayenne or Taycan.

Ok… so I’ll fit the fancy new NA ones for a 911… except that’s only from 992. I would ignore that but ridiculously the 992 seems to come in staggered wheel diameters as well as widths.

Anyway very long story short you can only get the fronts in an NA and the rears in a N0 for 305/20s as that diameter tyre on a 992 runs narrower 295s

So question is… would you run the shiny new tyre on the front (2022 I think) and one developed nearly a decade ago on the rear or just run N0s all round. Think I’m leaning toward the latter.

Might not make much difference, but I'd want a matched set on all four corners.

I did a lot of googling on ‘N’ rates tyres for my Boxster and was there any specific reason for needing them and didn’t really get an answer. Some people even suggested your insurance would be invalidated by not fitting them, I think that was bollocks though.

Are they just tested and recommended by Porsche? I think I went for N rated Michelins in the end.

I'd go for the N0s all round - then you know that they were developed as a set for your car.

The 992 having larger diameter rears isn't much of an issue when the rears are already wider in the staggered set up. Even our Macan and Cayenne have/had staggered widths despite being 4wd. Debating whether to get an additional set of 21"s for winters for the Cayenne currently, since I think the 22"s on it may be pretty useless in snow.

Yes the compound is specifically developed for them and may be other structural differences such as sidewall stiffness.

The fact that they’ve brought out the NA, NB etc. adds credence to this as there would be no reason to do so unless there was a substantive difference between them.

I’ve fitted non N rated before as the only N option was the positively ancient PS2 but I didn’t have a car under warranty at that point whereas I do now.

If you can stomach it, I think all CG's would go for same-all-round.

In saying that - I've run various cars with different tyres on each axle over the years as I couldn't face ditching tyres with decent tread on them. Whilst transitioning from Supersports to PS4S I ran Supersports on the rear of the Evora only for around 6 months. Didn't bother me in the dry, but it played on my mind slightly in the wet, and heavily when temperatures started to drop (Supersports being particularly crap when it starts to get cooler).

Yes that's the way I'm leaning. Probably all marginal differences but I also don't want Porsche whining as I plan to renew the warranty (coming up shortly).

They can't whine about the warranty if you have N-rated tyres all round. You could have an N-rated Pirelli on one corner and N-rated Michelins on the other three and that still complies with their ridiculous tick-box requirement.

I’ve briefly looked at the warranty. Really you need the tyre fitted by a Porsche authorised service centre too otherwise it’s a “third party” and thus nothing may be covered.

I've reluctantly relisted the BMW, it's not going to sell if I don't advertise it. It's just all so painful. I had an email last night, two days after the last listing ended, asking if the seats are black. FFS. There's three photos of them in the advert.

I'm really stressing the "no offers" this time but because I need some excitement in my life I've suggested I might take a p/x. I will let you know what kind of random s**t a person looking at £3k BMWs wants to offload

I have a fair few undertray fasteners still from BMW - they're not that pricey tbh. But will get the next lot from there ta.
