I’d just get a varta or yuasa of the right size, unless Dan can suggest an absurdly light but powerful and easy to look after lithium version.

Halfords have been close enough to online retailers on the last couple I’ve bought that it seemed easier to just go and buy one. Nice and easy to return if it fails under warranty.

That reminds me, the latest Mat Armstrong Aston video - brand new DB12 and it has a massive 12v AGM battery whilst everything vaguely sporty over £60,000 these days has LiPo4.

I can't recommend one but....changing the battery in an S1 Elise is a rite of passage. You've never really owned one until you've changed the battery

5 years and the same battery in mine. Kept on the conditioner when not in use. Craig who bought the car from me had to replace the battery however. But…only after he parked the car and left the bloody lights on.

Replacement wise a decent one from Tanya will do the job.

I looked at Lithium batteries when (I thought) mine had died on the 4C - lots of other had done it; but the cost, lifespan (short and longterm) plus the need for a specific charger meant it wasn't worth the investment, IMO....maybe if you're desperately chasing weight reduction across the board?

I think it's a lot easier to replace on the S2/S3, it was the S1 that was the knuckle-scraper of a job!

I was looking at them, one lot do a kit with an isolator on the bracket, I'm sure I read that they claim it can sit for something like a year and a half if isolated and still start. That was quite appealing really, saves plugging in the trickle charger. They are expensive though, and I haven't looked into longevity.

yeah, i’m not bothered about fancy batteries - i just want reliability and a reasonable cost. i expect i’ll go for the one Scott posted with the discount!

Yep. Some dissasembly needed for the wiper motor cover to get it out.

ha! i’ve ordered one - i quite enjoy a job like that though, you get a chance to learn about another section of the car and how it goes together.

i wish there (is there?) was a Haynes manual for the car, i seem to spend a lot of time googling how to do stuff.

Insurance sent me a customer satisfaction link! Gasp, have they finally cleared my settlement?

No. And the link is expired/"already completed". And the claim still shows as 'active' on the portal.

I'm trying to be zen about this, but the temptation to go fucking nuclear at them is high at this stage - especially as their quote for the Z4C was three times that of Admiral, so it's not like I need to maintain a relationship with them.

Unless you've got a good reason not to, just stick a big old lead acid battery in there. lithium batteries require a lot of maintenance on an occasional use car, 90% of elises that have them are delivered to me already fucked and I spend my life charging up other peoples dead batteries that they haven't looked after properly.

The downside is, fitting a standard battery in an S1 is a shitty job as its a perfect fit in the hole before you add all the wiring loom, washer bottle pipes, wiper motor cover etc etc so whoever does it will be cursing a lot.

Its also virtually impossible if you've got arms like pipe cleaners as you're basically doing a bent over one arm row with a 20kg weight
